And here is the situation with Kitty's vine crack at the pumpkin. It was starting to rot and move down the vine a bit (past the pumpkin), so in my aggressive surgical mood Monday I carved out everything that looked bad and then some, just to be safe. I split the vine all the way through a little bit and left this small paring knife sticking in there to sort of act as a drain to help fluid fall out of the vine. It seems to have worked very well - this picture is 24 hours after surgery and it all looks dry and good. Also had to slice off 2 sections from the stump, also starting to rot. This one is getting it at both ends right now, but all areas look good 24 hours after surgery. Like I said, I went very aggressive with removing bad spots this time, I don't want to be farting around with it for much longer. Let's get these ponies healthy so I can ride 'em hard!
