My first green squash update in a while - it looks like I've finally gotten a pollination to take on the 766.5 Gerhardt, 2 days ago. The problem with this one is the 9-foot long stem has already gotten lengthwise and crosswise splits in it. This plant has seemed very brittle in general with a lot of side vines getting small cracks as they grow. The plant also seems to have what I think is a bacterial infection, but it is only showing up on leaf edges. It is not at all the same thing that took down the 1142 Vankooten in a matter of days. This has been going on for a few weeks now, very slowly. The rest of the plant is exploding with growth like normal, so we'll see. I'll be happy with any green squash that I get this year, and 500 lbs. could take 2nd place at the weigh-off!
