I have placed several bricks at the top and sides of my plants to keep heavy rains from washing the soil from around the base of the plants. I think this will work well.I have had no problem in the past due to using plastic but this year i am thinking of going bare dirt to let the soil breathe good. If weeds are too big of a problem I may have to turn to landscaping fabric.
