3/10: TESTER SEED EXPERIMENT 1.) Cut sides of 3" peat pots & wrapped with rubber band. 2.) Checked PH of potting soil=6.5 3.) Prepared 12 "Test" seeds from last yrs. pumpkins and one seed I won in a raffle. 4.) Prepared heating pad (set on medium, cookie sheets & lined with foil to place pots on. 5.) Ordered soil thermometer (nobody in Sacto seems to have one--even the "pot" growing store!) 6.) Lightly filed edges of seeds with superfine sand paper 7.) Soaked seeds 4 hrs. in 1 qt. water, 1 tsp. 12% humic acid and 1 Tbsp. liquid seaweed/fish hyd. solution (Age Old Organics products) 8.) Mixed 1 gal. fresh VAM, mixed into soil 9.) Pre-warmed soil/VAM mixture approx. 85 degrees in window sill with heating pad underneath 10.) Planted seeds pointed end down at approx. 1" 11.) Will record and check how fast they germinate. 12.) Getting 1 gal. pots ready for setting inside yard "Greenhouse" 13.) Checking with Redmond's for 10 cu top soil (they do a special mix) 14.) Compost pile going: horse manure, chicken, coffee grounds, etc. Trying to do this RIGHT this year. Soil will cost about $300; To date, have spent $151.00 (seeds, fertilizer, potting mix, peat pots).
