Enough hose to set it up so that it will touch the ground and point up at a slight angle without stooping over. I had to use electrical tape to hold some of the pieces together because they were really all designed to be assembled in this fashion. But I didn't have to modify any of them. The only thing I had to get was a longer 3/8 inch plastic tubing from local hardware store because I made the hose longer than the manufacturer intended.
