Well we are finally getting a few nice days, maybe 2-3 without rain and heat.We should be around 40+ inches since May 1st. All I can say is what a year with all the rain, heat and humidity. We are one week from the Iowa State Fair and hope to have a good time once again at Don's. I may even have a small pumpkin to take for Friday. The watermelon plants look very bad and the fall melons have slowed way down but the 235 Leonard is around 110 pounds but only gaining 1.5 pounds a day now. The 267 Edwards is still at 2 pounds a day at est. 98 pounds. The fall pumpkins are at small numbers but have a few out there hanging on. The best is off the 1622 Young plant that snapped early on which is Clare's plant and is a small plant, around 340 pounds. Anne's plant is small also with the 1161 Rodonis around 235 pounds. None of these are gaining much at all but I will take anything. The 1288 Wallace plant lost its stump. The Stelts plant lost its main the Northrup plant lost its stump also.
The other growers here are really struggling and many do not have anything set. They seem to be Ok with it and are looking forward to next season. Maybe we can have a normal year down here in S.E. Iowa. WE ARE DUE! So everyone here in S.E. Iowa we will plan again for next spring and we need to get together for some meetings once more. Hope to see some of you at the fair!
