Hooray! The foamy stump is no more! I decided to get my husband's hunting knife and carved out all rot, just like the dentist working on a cavity. Then I put a lightbulb in the cavity to coterize (sp?) the wound for awhile. Now I've got the fan on it and it's just fine. I've still got half of the stump left. So that's good that I didn't have to remove it.
