and could it be...is it possible...that right when i go back to work after the strike i have new member of the family? this female at 25' is a 4 lober pollinated on july 19th with the 991 on the 1147 second secondary in right after the section of cut off main vine. the main is well bigger than pop can wide at the cut off point now. this secondary was wrapped around and will have 6 tertiaries grown as secondaries spidered around before the pumpkin and 6 or more after the pumpkin to fill in the remaining shrinking gap of the plant. about 450 sq ft of plant right now and will be 700 in no time. this female is 2.5 days old, still shiney and looks a lot better and bigger since yesterday. forgot to remove petals after day one and today removed them and threw on some captan on the blossom just in case. the fan is still blowing on this one too to keep it cool and it has remained covered. never got above 81 on day of pollination. if it takes and becomes my stoughton or bust pumpkin...i will name it kenny powers jr. lol. come on kp jr. go go go!!!!!! a set on the 19th gives me 81 days of growth before loading friday night before stoughton. hopefully kp jr. is the one to take the sting out the potential this plant once had prove to me to never give up on a plant unless its a contagious diseased plant. i would like to prove that something is salvagable when tragedy strikes early enough on a plant and retraining and growing on a secondary may not win 1st place, but can still have another pumpkin to bring to another show for fun. i will say having all the time in the world with the recent 3 week strike couldn't have come at a better time to kick this plant into semi-competitive shape. got another female in about 3 days 5 feet down the line already shaded and a fan goes on it in tomorrow for the high heat coming friday and will stay on it til after setting or aborting.
