Hello everybody! This is my first post of 2010, I will not be growing any pumpkins in my main patch this yr, but i started a few seeds for someone else & had a few extras-so i put a couple plants in our (wife's & my) veg patch! I chose the strongest one, & now this plant looks pretty good, So the seed is 892 Bassett from last yr the cross is 672 Bassett X 1014 Holland ---so grant parents are 1088 x 856 --&--1229x 1127, On the 1088 side it has 723 x 712 , on 856 side it has 846 x 810 ,Then on 1129 side it has 805 x 1260, on the 1127 side it has 1097x 805, interesting !! The 892 last yr was only small sq ft & had few short secondary's with stump rotted early then main also rotted , i was sup-prized to see it weigh 892, But the seeds look better than almost any i have ever seen ! So now to my plant this yr, its healthy & young only started on may 20th, I pollinated the first pumpkin at 10 ft out & i will go with that on , Because of where it is being grown! & i will have to make platform to grow it off on a hillside, The secondary's are gonna be 12-15 ft ea & i will run the main past the pumpkin maybe 12-15 ft, it was pollinated on July lucky 13th , I will name it as of right now (lucky 13) its a 4 lobe, At 7 days old today it looks pretty good! I will post again sometime, See ya!
