the plant told me what to do. it said chop off the remaining plant now. the rotten area went completely soft and shriveled inward. the remainder of the plant i intially left on in front of the pumpkin was removed. seven secondaries will be retrained with the use of some tertiaries too to fill in the gap. the pumpkin grew an inch circ in about 10 hours so it is still growing. if i can keep it growing while the patch and root system catches up, maybe this plant has a chance to produce 4 digits. that is my goal with this recent turn of events to salvage what i can and experiment to see what can possibly be accomplished for myself and others out there who run into this again in the future. i put down a liberal amount of neptunes seeweed and fish, agro k 9-18-9, and humic acid as a drench on the remaining root system. all male flowers have been removed, and the tarp was removed off the pumpkin and it will get just a white sheet so the leaves around the pumpkin can get full sun all day. in the picture i blanketed this pumpkin with a white comforter and will do so for any night with this pumpkin that goes below 65. this is an experiment and i need to push as hard as i can with the limited plant at the time being to try to keep the pumpkin producing at least 2 inches per day that would put it around 104" circ on day 30 and maybe with enough leaves by then i can maitain that pace for a while and get a long slow steady grower. i put up the rain tower sprinkler to cool the plants off during the heat on a timer basis now that the low volume sprinkler heads have been attached. this set back has me diggin in my heals and fighting back to salvage the best of an f'd up situation.
