Do you remember, about 10 or so years ago all of the news footage when that guy hit the ice skater Nancy Kerrigan across the knee? Remember how she sat down on the ground in sheer agony yelling out, "WHYYYYYYY? WHYYYYYYY? WHHHHYYYYY?!?" Those were my exact words and tone of voice as well as facial expression this afternoon when I busted the main vine clean off my 1164 about 2 feet in from the growing tip. The 1164 is my biggest plant, but it has a mind of it's own: It wants to grow backwards and straight up. I have been training the vine successfully around itself, but when it came time to *gently* apply a bit of pressure to do some burying, it snapped crisply off. I guess all I can do at this point with it is to train the lateral right next to the break as the new main. It was sad because I was just admiring the tiny baby female flower on the meristem bundle, my first of the year. Darn it. Darn it. Darn it.
