this is the 991 looking good today. it was just starting show the first the signs of the heat that was already building this morning. zero wind out there and my patch runs usually 3 to 4 degrees warmer in the sun than recorded at the joliet airport. i have a black asphalt driveway to the south of the patch. i have a brown brick home next to the east edge of the patch. but i have let ivy grow on that side covering the brick to help buffer the oven effect. you can't see any brick at all on that side cuz my patch soil is higher than the house level and the composted soil run off feeds the ivy nicely. very beautiful green color. i also have the 6' wooden fence that reflects heat and reduces air flow also on all other edges of the patch. yesterdays work was essential to fight this heat and sun on plants growing so fast that the root zones are barely keeping up until the taps roots get going. this will be the hottest week in late may i have ever had to deal with and that rabbit taking out 1/3 of the 1147 roots didn't help that plant too much with this heat either. lol. it was the first plant yesterday and today to shut down into wilty mode to protect itself from losing too much moisture. i got the misting system going yesterday by 12:30 and it was just in the nick of time. it will get plenty of use this week for sure. the watering from misting and this heat is going to push the plants at least one week ahead of schedule. if all goes well, i imagine i will be pollinating at the 13' to 15' mark about june 20th which is 4 weeks from today. but that is a long way away and this heat and wicked thunderstorms usually go hand in hand.
