well well well. what do we have here?......that is a good question cuz i have no idea what sprout is what. i got a bunch of free seed packets from when i ordered the deepspader last fall and threw them ontop of some leaf litter and poor soil along the fence line in the back of the solarium and covered them up with some more leaf litter to keep the birds and squirrels off them. that was sometime in march. it is full sun and there is a 5' tall chain link fence in this area about 15' long. after getting my compost delivered in late may, i through some across the top up to the deck line and filled in the gap between the fence and the deck about 6". i knew the prouts would now have to push through along way to reach light and break the soil, but they were free seeds and this was just for fun. i through in some speckled long neck swan gourds, some pear goards, and another goard i do not remember. i figured with that many seeds, some will make it. today i noticed this little cluster. i am going to let the strongest along the fence win the spot and allow 2 to grow that look different seedling wise than the other and see what happens. there is another like the darker green bigger one in this stretch about 6 feet down. i expect to see more shooting up and will cull later down the road. i will get some bagged compost and garden soil and line the back of this area on the other side of the fence to give them some more root space and nutrients and see what happens. just a fun type deal and the pictures of the gourds looked cool. why not? bet my lunatic dog will like to mess with them and think they are toys and pull em off the vine. and that would be ok too. lol.
