Well, I have learnt my first lesson of the season today. All the young plants have suffered a bit of 'frazzling' from the sun to the very young shoots. We have had glorious sunshine for a while now and last year I didn't have to protect any of the new growth but then again I grew the plants to a more established state last year so I guess they may have been a bit more tolerant possibly? Fingers crossed it hasn't caused too much upset. I'll put some screening over them to help them through any more early hot days.
