go time! the seeds have been filed and are soaking. after filing, the seeds got wrapped in a paper towel and dropped into their cup of luke warm water. at 3 pm this afternoon, after a 6 jour soak, they go into the 5" peat pots with the starter mix already warmed to 85 degrees. i will get the mix ready in this 6 hour window of time using warm water with the hoffman's seed starter mix. the pots have been soaking for 24 hours. they will get filled with the moistened mix and go into the humidity domes over the germination mat with the temp. probe sensor in one of the center pots and thermostat set for 85 degrees. i will monitor the actual pot mix temps with a calibrated digital thermometer i use at work. then it is mother hen time and checking on temps every hour today to make sure all is well. i will also set my alarm for 2 pm and go and get a check in the middle of the night to make sure i do not cook 'em or let temps drop to low. i feel like a kid in science class all over again. science was always my favorite subject and while filing my seeds this morning, i could not help to think of the potential and what the possible final outcome will be. if the 991 or 901 do not sprout, their back ups will get tried later this week. i got 5 1147s going to pick the best 2, and 2 of each of tyson naylors 873 and 752s and the best of each will be the backups plants side by side to the 991 and 901.
