When I checked the pumpkins this morning, there was a surprise waiting for me. One of the two plants that were started Feb 1 for a germination test (and met with a dose of frost the second night out in the garden) has a male blossom this morning, about 1 foot out from the stump. Poor pitiful little plant, it's stunted from being in a plastic milk jug for two months, then frosted after being planted in soggy wet soil! I wanted to see what would happen, I guess I'm gonna find out! It was just starting to look as if it might pull out of the stuntage, but it's sure not very big and powerful for starting to flower. And a storm forecast for tonight, too. I'll bring all my flats of vegies back into the greenhouse tonight. If the storm destroys my 100 tomato plants, I'll have something to replant with. Maybe I can catch a snapshot to post of my garden when I go down to put them inside.
