the raised bed is 16 by 16 feet. I have a small rototiller that I tried to use to break up the ground below, but it wasnt really digging in and it would hit rocks and bounce up in the air and bend the blades, so I loosed up the area with a pick and digging bar and removed the large rocks and few boulders, and then rototilled the ground to a depth of 6 inches. I then 4 inches of good soil, and gypsum and and blood and bone meal.
