i see that my rival georgie boy has picked out 2/3s of his 2010 lineup. with some recent trades, mine is set in stone. going with a 991, 901, 1147 lineup. they all have some 842 genes in them, with some more than others and have all produced heavy pumpkins. the 991 has produced up to 21% heavy on the 1242 urena, the 901 popped the 19% heavy monster 1677.5, and the 1147 produced 24% heavy on the 873 naylor 2009. the 991 on average has proven out to throw heavy and big consistantly. the 901 hasn't been grown enough to get a good percentage read on it, but i can't argue with the fantastic success the hunts have had with it. and the 1147 will get its chance to compete as well thanks to my brother "Meat" from taylorville. plenty of 1147s so one spot will get 2 1147s. got backup seeds for the 901, so this seed will get planted unless all do not germinate. and the 991 has no backup seed yet, so i will have to say merry xmas to myself and pick one up at auction. backup plants next to the 901 and 991 will yet to be determined. out of the last 4 years, one of my backup plants has won the spot 3 times, so i want good strong genetic plants that have yet to be proven out next to the big dogs. this way, i can at least get a feel how the plant does up to a 2' vining stage for information for myself and the grower. culling is necessary to increase odds, but can be done with gathering enough early information so as not to completely waste the plants short life. if Meat gets some good seed counts out of his monster heavy crosses, i would be honored to use them as backups next to my big dogs. the 873 naylor 2009 (1147 x 1119) and the 752 naylor 2009 (1119 x 1147) both went 24% heavy and would cross nicely into my other choices if i need to go to the bullpen and call on the reserves.
