Wagon wheel ruts cut into the soft sandstone. Trail is near Guernsey, Wy. Trail cuts up thru the sandsone cliff along the river bank. When reaching the open praire on top, from air, tracks can still be see spreading out over the open country to get out of the dust and seek fresh grazing for the animals. The Oregon/California trail was just about finished in 1869 when the transcontiental railroad was joined at Promotory Point, Utah. Rail travel took over where teams and wagons had transported before. I flew over this area in late 1970s and it was it was a site to see the ancient ruts showing thru the grass.
