My bigger 434 is in the mid 700's now. It is day 43. It is developing splits in the stem end below the stem. I think they are about 1/2 inch deep but its hard to tell since the stem is in the way. There are about 3 splits that are around 3 inches long. The main was terminated at the pumpkin so no stress there. I have never been in this situation before, so any advice is appreciated. I coated the splits with undiluted daconil last night. I would really hate to lose the pumpkin now. Is it normal for big ones to crack this way? Should I not be concerned since the walls are hopefully thick in this area?
