here is "freak" starting to fill out some what by going wide. this "freak" makes me smile with its crazy long shape, 2" protruding blossum, and its narrow shoulders. trouble with a short stem (4" at the most) and future vine clearance had me whack off the main (retrained secondary to be the main) right behind the stem. i then spun the "freak" until the problem was solved and braced the main vine and stem with styrofome. at 214 lbs estimate, it was now or never. in doing so i only lost 2 secondaries cuz the main snapped 4 feet after the "freak" anyways. i do not see it hurting the growth too much cuz on removal, the root systems on those removed secondaries were still just getting somewhat established and those leaves were feeding more of the plant that their own tap roots at this point. "freak"'s oddball numbers today are 98"cc 53" ss 62" sb = 213" ott od day 23. the past 3 days have averaged 25 lbs per day so it is entering the chugging stage. a blanket with some calcium on it i believe from last year made a slight chemical burned checkered pattern on its back when the cold spell was here. makes it even freakier looking.
