got about an inch of rain in a half hour yesterday as the skies opened up from a dangerous hail producing cell that produced no hail in my patch. thank God. with the cold front coming in last night, i decided to get some numbers this morning to get some pre and post cold spell numbers. gonna be a high of 70 today and lows in the lower 50s for the next 3 days. blankets will come out tonight and be used the next 3 nights to try to keep internal temps buffered from rapid changes. this morning "It"s numbers are 106 cc 67 ss 64 sb totaling 237 ott or 289 lb estimate on day 24. that means it has averaged 34.5 lbs a day for the last 4 days. "freak" got its first ott measurement of the year and is 67 cc 38 ss and 44 sb totaling 149 ott or 80.2 lbs on day 17. freak was 54.5 cc on day 15 and hit 6"+ cc the past 2 days of warmth and sun. and good news so far for "duece" on the secondary of the 1161 is at 21" cc this morning at day 9 and shows no signs of stem splitting so far or aborting. it got down to 55 degrees and the pumpkins felt cold while measuring today. a bad "splittsville" scenario for rapidly growing pumpkins has developed with hotter temps followed by an inch of rain followed by a upcoming 3 day cold spell. the blankets will help some, but i will be nervous after the cold spell is over and temps pick back up.
