one thing after another. the cold weather, low 50s over night, procuced yet another main snap. again on the good side if there can be one. the 1185 which has a tendencey to shoot up in the air at different times, did so last night and grew up and out and "snap". it was secured down last night, but oh well. and to add insult to injury, the crack went through right at leaf junction where the next 20' female was and cracked right before it instead of after it. so yesterdays pollination attempt will be the only one on the new main and really need it to take. i am letting all secondary females develop on both the 1185 and 1161 from here on out for insurance. even a secondary pumpkin with this much plant behind it now will have a chance for something respectible come the weighoff. it has been a very trying year, all with in the last 3 weeks, that has me laughing at how many curveballs this hobby can throw at you. it is amazing, last year no main snaps. this year 3, and 2 on the same plant. in fact, i have had only one secondary crack out of all 3 plants, on the 1185, and the rest are fine. what are the odds of out of 4 vine snaps, 3 of them would be on the mains. sheeeeesh. so now i really need some good luck for a change and have the 17' yesterday on the 1185 take and the 1161 on tomorrow morning take and all will be fine. good news of the morning, the 1385 grew 2 inches since last night and is now in the chugging stage. she might be my only chance at glory this year.
