Finally got the plants into the patch today. 6 pumpkins and 2 squash in the final lineup. 1028 Johnson and 857 Platte are the squash. I broke the stem on the 716 so that resolves the dilemna on which one to cull. My 696 and the 975 Summers failed to germinate. I only had to omit one remaining plant and so I found a home for the 1070 Pugh. That means the 583 Michalec, 603.5 Muller, 1005 Mombert, 1097.5 Beachy, 724 Perham and 763 Biss are all getting room to stretch thier roots out. The plants have been hardened off and will be without cloches this year. I am relying on the plants to know what to do and when to do it on their own in this environment. The cloches I have been using did not seem to help last year and when the wind kicked up did more harm than good. I have neither the time or resources right now to put into improving them. Hopefully we'll have a decent spring for a change to get them off to a good start.
