The patch was sanitized, then inoculated with Terra Grow, Companion, Actinovate and Rootshield. Later it will get Cease, Bio-Nutrients and WOW Root. Amendments, per the soil test, were tilled in.

What a pain, putting in the heating cables!! The bucket is a place-holder for the seedling.

Huts are in place with thermometer, heater, fan, and walking boards. Here you can see the electric panel and my prep table. The water source is on the far side of the table. And all those bricks will be to hold "stuff" down!

Now to sit back and enjoy the flowers till the seedlings are ready to go in the patch. I had intended to plant my 1977 and 1634. But since I promised myself to grow just two plants, the 1634 has given its place to Amelia's 2006. I'm excited!!

This year's patch has two AG's.........1977 Rea and 2006 Amelia Wolf. Seven plants are just getting going of jack-o-lanterns and novelty pumpkins.

1977 Rea - One basket is protecting the pollinated baby, the other protecting the main vine tip. Notice the walking boards have "feet" at each end. So the board doesn't actually touch down....... less compaction. Look closely and you'll see that I am still old school.......using coat hanger corners to hold vines in place.

2006 was pollinated with the 1977 on 6/14. It is now 12 days old and seems to have been a successful pollination!!

2006 Wolf - Pumpkin growth has stalled out in the Rea patch. Can't pinpoint one particular reason - just a few things adding up!! Fireball is a pretty thing!

1977 Rea - Tootsie Pop is also a brilliant color. She and Fireball are the reverse cross of each other. The color came through from last year's 1977 Crazy Daisy (1885 Werner) and 1634 Tiger Lily (2350 Gienger).

Correction: 1977 Rea 22 and 1634 Rea 22 are the reverse cross of each other. Not the 2006 Wolf, Fireball !!!

1977 Rea, Tootsie Pop, is on the left. 2006 Wolf, Fireball, is on the right. Both had a rough season. Problems with rot keeps them from going to the Ohio Valley weighoff. Fortunately, they did make it to the front yard display! I'm hoping they will hold together a couple weeks, so visitors can enjoy them!!
