I wonder how sunflowers would do in a windy raised garden? Sunflowers. Thinking about a 5 gallon bucket challenge with them. What’s the best way to layer those buckets? Rock, sand, seed starter mix, peat moss is my guess from bottom to top with what I’ve got.

It’s spring yea! Kids planted watermelon pumpkin and cantaloupe seeds from local library we tried the egg carton and shells with starter mix but ended up putting egg cartons in city compost bin covered seeds with some leaves and sandbox dirt also put a sheet of ice near so hopefully our spring sun melts and seeds survive. I’m not good at growing seed starts so letting Mother Nature take the reins on this one who knows if anything grows keep you posted, also got seed pods from tree picked up from back and side of house still have large front to do, but I hurt so it’s slow going, got some old pots think the kids will enjoy painting. Made corned beef and cabbage a few days late added gold potatoes did in slow cooker my best yet cut up cabbage added corned beef fat side up spice pack then cubed gold potatoes the juice with meat instead of 1/2 water cause same amount slow cooked on high 7 hours delish shared some with old neighbor too

Planted some squishy heirloom tomatoes in tomato bed in evening when was throwing other stuff in compost for city items like seed pods guess Mother Nature is doing her winter sowing dropping the last of those with march winds from tree growing outta my deck re picked up some areas cleared another area section in break from April showers and hail my 10 year old reminded me saying if you don’t like Spokane weather wait 5 minutes Jeff foxworthy would say people in WA know what a sun break is, me I’ve seen snow here through out spring I’ve added some leaves to raised flower bed pots mini kind more to gather always but screw holding metal on hand rake needs replacing and doing it by hand is taking a toll on the body

Luke’s first practice this spring was yesterday, tomorrow Susan and Luke’s first game. Now today was gardening. We planted tomato and pepper seeds from seed library. Crowded seeds a bit but better seeds bed then my own. Then we raked up more seed pods, needles and pine cones. Sunny took dog for a walk but started to sprinkle so headed home. The biggest thrill Fred pooped in toddler potty! Yea! Luke and Susan have come out of regressed potty training (that schooling back at home improved and are both in underwear again, another yea!
