A few days behind where I would like to be, which is to say I'm about even with where I was on this date the last couple years.

The law of averages caught up to me this year - Blossom end split both of my 1885s. This was the more dramatic of the two.

Amelia has the best looking 2365 offspring that I know of, but not the biggest. I'd say this one should be crossed with Rodebaugh's Ruby next year.

2006 (Amelia) Wolf 2022 (2365 Wolf x sib)

Here's another angle of the 2006. Amelia got 2nd place in the HD voting among some very stiff competition. I have a feeling that in a few years the majority of pumpkins will be good looking ones.

Back to back HD award at Ridgefield. And like last year, it was about 100# light. 1120 Wolf 22 (1040 Wolf x Self). Best of the plants out in the orange patch by far. Pretty happy with the 1040 and 906 seeds so far, although a few didn't produce as bright orange as I was hoping.

1761 Wolf 22 (2183 Mendi x 1797 Wolf) What a rock solid fruit. A healthy but unremarkable plant. I pulled the 1797 plant due to odd fruit that wouldn't grow, so the line ends here and I won't save the seeds from this one. This may be the last ugly fruit I intentionally grow.

Thursday night we set up the tripod like we've done a bunch of times before. But then, we got cold feet. The 4x4s are 20 years old and a little dinged up and getting some bends in them. We lifted the 2006 a couple weeks before with it, what's another 10% or so extra weight on them I had been thinking. Played it safe and called in some heavy duty help.

It went sooooo smooth. Thanks to our friend John up the road, I don't think I'll lift any big ones any other way from now on.

2493 Wolf 22 (2365 Wolf x Self) I knew it was a good solid fruit, but I was still shocked by the number. Thanks to the OVGPG crew for another well run weighoff!

From a distance, the cantelouping has a lighter orange color, but up close the base of it is a decent red. I'm pretty excited, as the 2493 plant was the pollinator to Amelia's 2006 so the color should continue on most of the offspring.

797 Wolf 22 (1787 Wolf x 2365 Wolf) Grown out in the orange patch. Nice orange barrel shape, and the pollinator grew the 2493.

411 Wolf 22 (906 Wolf x 1040 Wolf) Grown out in the orange patch, the pollinator plant grew the 1120. As far as I know this is the first cross of two seeds that had been grown on the same plant, and were the same cross since the 493 Vankooten (1230 Daletas x 1016 Daletas). Not that it makes it a good seed, just a neat combo.

Had to switch the 2493 from the big trailer to the small one to put it in the garage for safe keeping. A good strong tree branch and the chain hoist worked great!
