I decided to not grow giants this year. Last year was difficult with the sudden hail destruction in early June and soil disease (which may have been the seed line I used). I have also been dealing with a chronic sacrum/hip pelvis issue since early March which will improve but it limits everything I do. Additionally I have grown giants in the same spot since 2011 and before that it was vegatables for 15 years. It could do with a rest.
Last year the larger end of the patch (after I pulled the hail damaged plant) had 2 crops of mustard and then the rye you see in the pic. I am thinking 1 more crop of mustard for a july till followed by maybe buckwheat or another crop that I can till in september early october followed by more rye.
Weed wacking and tilling the rye. Ill let it sit for a week or so till again and plant mustard.
I will have a giant tomato, LG and Ill let a FP ramble out of the end of the patch into the lawn.
Good Luck to all!
I
Watering it in.
Will let it biofumigate about 3 weeks then re till and put in another crop...I am leaning towards buckwheat. Since last years problems the patch has had 4 cover crops, 3 mustard 1 winter rye and I will finish with winter rye again.
oops...this is my PB at 3.66. This is with only some pumpkin pro and minimal ammendments and letting the plant grow on its own with many fruit being set on it.
