A few of my families here on the Big Island of Hawaii have asked me to help submit photos of what they are doing for the 5 gallon Bucket Challenge...they are excited to grow their giant tomatoes...plants are and have been distributed this week...you can follow us on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pg/EastHawaii4HandHawaiiCounty4HLivestock/photos/?tab=album&album_id=10158038763165944 ...I will try my best to keep up with their photos as they send them to me...I need to figure out how to upload several multiple shots at one time...I forgot you are only able to upload one at a time here...that will take me some time...LOL

Submitted by the Bolger Family - their family has decided to try the 5 gallon bucket challenge with their 2 children (the kids are competing against each other, so I hope this will be acceptable as 2 entries)...they also won a couple WOW Super Starter Paks at our recent Hawaii Giant Fruit & Vegetable Contest Seminar last weekend so are taking advantage and using those with their plants. They are excited to see what their tomato plants do...they are growing a 2.76 Stawecki and 4.70 May. (They sent me a half dozen photos to show what they did to get their plants transplanted)

As you probably guessed...some areas of Hawaii are not meant for growing things...especially areas once covered by lava...so many of our families are used to doing container gardens...including the use of the 5-gallon bucket...in this photo the family (Olsen-Moore Family) has 2 plants one will be grown in a 12 gallon rubbermaid container and then one plant will be grown in a 5 gallon bucket.
