Bummer of a day! We've had several consecutive days of high winds in our area. I went to tuck my plants in for the night and found that during the day the wind had ripped the plastic off part of my mini greenhouse, and during the course of the day it has whipped/smacked back and forth and broke off my 1501 VW plant. $h;)*!!!

Everything was going along fine. After several weeks of drought conditions, we got over 4" of rain last weekend, after which she put on a bunch of weight.

Blow out. Painful when it happens this close to the weigh off!! Good luck to all of my friends who will be attending the Southern Iowa Pumpkin Bash in Bloomfield, and Anamosa Pumpkinfest!

On a lighter note, I measured cut this Tall Corn stalk because it was leaning over the sidewalk. 19 Feet 10 Inches! We still have 4 or 5 stalks of tall corn that are actively growing. Variety = Tehua (USDA NSL 2825).

I've seen these tropical tall corn plants do some weird things over the years, but this one really takes the cake: on this tassel, the spikelets morphed into leaves!! WTF?

This tropical Tehua variety has always been my Tallest Corn, but it is also the slowest growing. In the last couple of weeks the first tassel and ears had just started to appear. I've only had one year where I got viable seeds from this variety.
