Well, I pulled the freezer box of seeds out, organized them, looked at the -25°c thermometer reading and my pic of my shacks from yesterday and put them away.

205 Kent black Diamond. I’m going to eat this one even if there is a weigh off. Lol

Sunday, May 24 View Page
?205 Kent watermelon has almost reached the end. I’d have erected the shack today but there’s a frost warning. Maybe tomorrow.?

Sunday, May 24 View Page
?1652 Crews. I’m experimenting a bit. The 40°soil heat has controlled the weeds a lot. I’m going to grow right on the clear plastic like I did last year with the IR film. Put the drip lines in underneath.?

Pruned the first females from the secondaries of the 1652. Main vine females should be along shortly I hope.

Sunday, June 7 View Page

?Well 20 years of growing experience just saved my butt. I was sure this one was going to open tomorrow but I know enough now to always check day before. Sometimes a fast growing plant can get a step on you. 1652 Crews x self June 16?

Tuesday, June 16 View Page
Well then. Thanks 2020 for being so awesome.

191 Kapelari is suffering from cold nights and days. Many +5 nights so far. I hope we get summer.

Sunday, June 21 View Page
205 Kent watermelon.

Sunday, June 21 View Page
244* Crews squash. It’s 3 Dap and the flower has fell off. That’s a good sign.

Sunday, June 21 View Page
1652 Crews plant. 4 Dap

Friday, June 26 View Page
191 Kapelari is about to lay down. I’ve been thinking about pollination many years but not this one. Cursed cold year so far.

Friday, June 26 View Page
244* Crews 9 Dap. Nice shape so far.

Friday, June 26 View Page
1652 Crews 10 Dap. Kicking in a bit. Crown showing some signs of rot. I thought the plastic may keep the humidity down some but that may not be the problem. Getting frustrated with this. Hope it lasts the next 50 days.

Friday, June 26 View Page
205 Kent Black Diamond. Culled it down to 2.

Monday, July 6 View Page
1652 Crews 20 Dap 71” circumference. That’s real good for me. The 1652 was 67” at 25 Dap but ended up beating the 2145 McMullen (1598!) that was in the greenhouse. It really put on the pounds late and passed the 2145. Hope this one does the same. The 2145 was the 1652’s pollinator so how can this be bad? lol

Tuesday, July 7 View Page
244*Crews 20 Dap 67” cir It’s a good looking fruit so far. Like the ones with the light specks. Appears to tip over the blossom end though.

Saturday, July 11 View Page
1652 Crews 25 Dap 94” cir. Been cloudy and cool half of those days.

Saturday, July 11 View Page
Here’s the 191 Kapelari fp plants. The cold weather this year has us really behind on anything that isn’t in a greenhouse.

Saturday, July 11 View Page
The 205 Kent Black Diamond watermelons at about 30 days. 51” cir. If I remember correctly. Just had lunch. That’s about the length of my memory lol.

Sunday, July 12 View Page
244* Crews 25 Dap 85” I measured after 23 Dap and it was 78” cir. Then cloudy rainy day. 24 Dap it was 79”. Yesterday sunny warm and overnight 16°. Sun and warmth matter.

Thursday, July 16 View Page
1652 Crews 30 Dap 113.5” cir

Friday, July 17 View Page
244*Crews 30 Dap 99” cir. That’s ok for this patch. It’s shaded after 4:00 so loses about 5 hours of direct sun then and about 3 before 7:30. It gets worse as the season goes on.

Sunday, July 19 View Page
205 Kent watermelon is now about 59” cir. I believe it’s 41 Dap.

Wednesday, July 22 View Page
1652 Crews 35 Dap 134” cir. That’s good growth.

Thursday, July 23 View Page
244* Crews 35 Dap 113” cir Battling ants that have removed all the sand underneath the squash. Never seen that before. Also have some nasty splitting on front of fruit. This one is cranked up.

Sunday, July 26 View Page
1652 Crews 40 Dap 146” cir at the blossom. It’s much larger down lower now. Maybe over 150”.

Sunday, July 26 View Page
205 Kent about 48 Dap 62” cir

Sunday, July 26 View Page
191 Kapelari that isn’t bushy has normal fruit.

Thursday, July 30 View Page
Fruit on the bushy 191 Kapelari. It’s not very old. Not sure what it is.

Friday, July 31 View Page
1652 Crews 45 Dap 165” cir with the blankets on. So that’s probably a couple of inches over actual. Not taking them off to measure. The less you can touch a fruit the better.

Sunday, August 2 View Page
244*Crews 45 Dap 127”cir

Sunday, August 2 View Page
205 Kent 55 Dap 66” cir. Have a few strays showing up now too.

244* Crews 50 Dap 129” cir. Pretty slow growth now. It has been hot though.

Monday, August 10 View Page
1652 Crews 55 Dap 186” cir

Saturday, August 15 View Page
1652 Crews 60 Dap well, at the blossom it’s grown a few inches but if I truly wanted to measure at its largest I’m out of tape. Nasty blossom sag ring too...

Sunday, August 23 View Page
205 Kent black Diamond watermelon is still growing. Spider mites have taken this plant down. I didn’t spray this year. It’s impossible for me to grow melons without miticides.

Sunday, August 23 View Page
191 Kapelari main patch has lots of water now after 2 1/2” of rain in 2 quick storms. Small plant. It’s been a hell of a year.

Sunday, August 23 View Page
The 191 Kapelari bushy fruit is turning colour. It may be my largest fruit lol. Still has a chance to be yellow I suppose...

Sunday, August 23 View Page
1652 Crews Dap about 68 190 ish cir. Sag line getting scarier. Still growing but not as well. Let the tertiary vines take over some because the south winds brought mildew. I normally would have dealt with the humidity but for some reason it just doesn’t matter this time lol.

Saturday, September 5 View Page
Picked the 205 Kent Black Diamond melons. This one is 73.8 kg

Saturday, September 5 View Page
The other one was 74.3 kg.

Sunday, September 27 View Page
1652 Crews was picked today. 1920 lbs after subtracting the 14 lb rig. 202” cir 124”ee 134”ss

I guess I missed the last pics from the 191 Kapelari bush plant. On the top is a 144lb fruit from a 191 Kapelari normal plant. On the bottom, much smaller is the “pumpzini” from the bushy plant. It has ridiculous hard skin. Like a gourd.

Friday, February 19 View Page
Pumpzini from the 191 Kapelari. Carved.

Friday, February 19 View Page
Closeup of the skin. My brother-in-law used a saw.

Friday, February 19 View Page
Chopped up a young one on the 191 Kapelari bushy plant. Yes I tasted it.

Friday, February 19 View Page
I had 2 other 191 plants that grew nice shaped pumpkins. Interesting that none split this year for the first time ever. Hmmm.

Friday, February 19 View Page
Nice shaped one off the 191 Kapelari.
