Patch for Rys seeds. Vernal pool in background. Great year for rain. Let’s hope between environmentalists and politicians here in CA we get to use some of it.

Meat is great, especially when it reproduces. The vernal pool behind them, and to the left, is almost full. I’ll post some sailing pics. Got a couple personal size boats that the “kids” love.

Good thing pumpkins aren’t growing yet. I’ve never seen hail this big, in the Central Valley of CA. My wife took this picture. She said she’s sore from getting caught in it.

Here’s the sail boats. We’ve taken them out a couple times already on the vernal pool behind the patch. Sails are rolled up inside of boats.

My own line of tough orange kins I’ve selectively grown from over the past ten years. It all started when my Dad secretly contacted Joel Holland and Joel sent me free seeds. Then to top off my new addiction Pete Glasier sent me some great seeds too.

One of my own seeds selectively grown over the last 10 years. They first started from Bobier/Knauss/Lloyd & other oldies I can’t remember. Out of ~900 seeds planted 4 came up, 3 look healthy.

I’m probably going to regret it, but I bought 50 watermelon starters. Half jubilee, half crimson sweet. I’m getting a beehive put in the patch soon. A friend of mine that’s a PCA and CCA gave me calcium nitrate. The watermelon plants are exploding in vines now.

I don’t know if you can see the bigger crimson sweets on the right but they’re there. The big sprinkler to the left on a pole keeps plants happy when temps go above 100. Jubilee on left, giant kins’ middle

Sorry for the delayed germination update. Only one Rys seed sprouted then damped off.

I get my field kin seeds from people throwing away their jack o lanterns. I keep an eye out for the nice ones then ask later. Aside from alcohol and bleach treatments the seeds are free and have always produced well.

Up to date patch picture. I like growing watermelons on the outside edge of my pumpkin plants. By the time I’ve harvested the first watermelon crop and added a giant shot of nutrients to try for a second watermelon harvest, the pumpkin plants have reached the same nutrients. It’s a happy growing patch.
