The patch is full of snow but in about 3 months I will be getting it ready for the growing season!
Saturday, January 13 View Page
The snow is gone everywhere. No more left. Rain and 60s melted it all. My patch looks very small. Looked bigger when there was snow on it. Interesting
Saturday, January 13 View Page
My giant sunflowers diet consists of some liquid kelp plant food every time I water. Looking very strong

Picture did not go in before so here it is of my giant sunflower

Remember 4 months ago when my 1223,5 Rotted Estimated at 1275 pounds? I have thought about it and I may have the answer. Never can be guaranteed but I have a possible answer of what happened. So there was a soft area in the vine behind the pumpkin. A SVB dug in and caused it to get really soft. I remover pressing my finger in it and my finger went down. It was all rot in there and brown. Here is my thinking. As the energy flows through the vine it HIT the contaminated area the rotted area and it carried on Bacteria into the pumpkin! Pumpkins can drink gallons of water a day! So think about it all that infected bacteria going into the pumpkin gallons a day. I opened the pumpkin up and oh boy i remember there was soup halfway filled up in the pumpkin! I canít think of another way it couldíve been that soupy. There was no holes in the pumpkin and the bottom had no holes in it so that is the only way I can think on how it couldíve rotted.

MY 2018 thinking for ferts! Would be a huge improvement from last year
Monday, January 15 View Page
The tomatoes are making a comeback! I am not out of the competition just yet. The one on the right is known as the mystery Tomati. Lost the label for it. The one on the left is the 5.24 BORGERS
Saturday, January 20 View Page
I was on the Barnsville auction last night. My plan was to just watch the show. I saw something in lot 225. It was the 2252 Paton (2016) 21% heavy! Grown from the 1975 Wallace. I went ahead and bidded, after going back and forth I won the bid. I got a good deal on it. Over the past few months I was having trouble which seeds to do. Since I got that seed I am going to do that one! The genetics are very good. It is the 8th biggest pumpkin ever grown 2018 Lineup 2252 PATON (2016) EST 1275 Swenson (2017 Lineup could change If some major issues happen with a seed but I think they will work out just fine ;)
Saturday, January 20 View Page
I will not be posting any more pumpkin stuff until April on bigpumpkins, all I can say now is expect some big changes during the 2018 Season!!
Monday, January 22 View Page
I canít resist! I will be posting pumpkin patch updates! Stay tuned!
Monday, January 22 View Page
Ok, I am now deciding on what vine pattern I will use for the 2018 growing season. I have 3 options I drew out. As you can see I will most likely be using a second hooo house.
Monday, January 22 View Page
Option 1! The patch is about 1522 SF in total. In this option the 2252 Paton would be getting 31 feet of length by 31 feet wide! The Est 1275 swenson would have a smaller area. 33 feet long in this scenario and 17 feet wide. Look how j would curve the vines up.
Monday, January 22 View Page
Option 1. Picture did not go through before
Monday, January 22 View Page
Option 2. This has a few issues. The first is that the 1275 main vine would most likely have to be turned and curved because there would only be 12 feet from the hoop house until it reaches the end of the space it's in. I also feel like on the 2252 the secondary's would be shorter than option 1. Option 1 is a little wider for that.
Monday, January 22 View Page
And here is the 3rd option. Once again possible issues with 1275. Running out of room and having to turn the vine. The 2252 would be the same as option 1.
Monday, January 22 View Page
I wrote down what each option would mean
Monday, January 22 View Page
I like option 1 the best! I feel like it would be a good way to get the plants nice and organized. It would be a good pattern to handle I feel like. I might even have a walking board in the middle to be able to walk in between the plants
Monday, January 22 View Page
My goal is to have 15-20 secondaryís behind each plant. Imagine If I could get 15-20 behind the pumpkins. 35-40 foot secondaryís on the plants behind the kin. That would be a HUGE contribute!
Wednesday, January 24 View Page
Update on the tomato. This giant tomato is the mystery tomato since I lost the label for it. Bob count me in the competition because this tomato plant is making a nice comeback. I should have a tomato on it maybe early to mid February!
Wednesday, January 24 View Page
This is the 5.24 Borgers. This plant looks a bit unhealthy. Leaves are a little wrinkly but overall I think i should be able to get a tomato on it and possibly get it more healthier
Saturday, January 27 View Page
Pepper update! I am keeping the peppers in the growing tent with the Led light. This picture is from my green and red bell peppers. I have over 12 buds on it. Right now there is 1 flower that opened a day ago. I have a fan in the growing tent so I hope that helps it pollinate! Would be nice if I got fresh peppers!

New England giant pumpkin growers lunch. Lots of fun talking to the growers! You really learn a lot going to these .
Saturday, January 27 View Page
I was at the NEGPGA lunch meeting today. Hayden came along with me. He is such a good friend that he gave me some fertilizers for the 2018 season! I can't thank you more Hayden! I've got some Azos, some cal carb, (foliar booster) some Potash and an SVB trap now I have two which is great! And some water soluble plant food that will help keep the plant healthy. And some seeds! Thanks Hayden! I can't tell you how much this is going to help me! ,
Saturday, January 27 View Page
Here are the seeds he gave me. These are really nice! Most likely won't grow them this year but certantly another year! :)
Saturday, January 27 View Page
Seeds Hayden gave me
Saturday, January 27 View Page
I received the 2252 Paton yesterday!
Sunday, January 28 View Page
Looking like I will have to kill this tomato. Not looking good at all. It is all deformed. At least I have 1 that's healthy
Sunday, January 28 View Page
Iím going to leave the tomato for One more day. If it still looks the same I will pull it.
Sunday, January 28 View Page
Yesterday at the luncheon I received some long gourd seeds, giant tomato seeds and some bushel gourd seeds. I will be doing a giant tomato for sure and I want to build a trellis to try a long gourd, the bushel gourds would just be to hard this year. I don't have the room for them. In the spring I will decide what tomato seeds I would do and what long gourd seeds I would do.
Monday, January 29 View Page
2018 pumpkin lineup. I got the sperry seeds. The 1938 the 1970 and the 1914. I won't be starting the 1970 or the 1914 I will be starting the 1938 with the 2252. I am doing a backup since I only have the 2252 Paton. My 1275s are on top. Lineup still stands EST 1275 swenson 2252 Paton 1938 sperry ( as backup)

I haven't done a sunflower update in awhile. Indoor sunflower is growing fast. It measures 28 inches tall and no signs of blooming! Last years sunflower was around 34 inches. Can I beat it? Hell yes!
Thursday, February 1 View Page
Hard to tell from pic but i think I'm out of the tomato contest. Look at the vine all of a sudden it is very very skinny almost like a ribbon vine. Just like it. And the leaves are dropping weirdly
Thursday, February 1 View Page
Just doesent look healthy
Thursday, February 1 View Page
Sunflower measures 30 inches today! Still no signs of blooming. Is 5 feet possible? Maybe !
Thursday, February 1 View Page
So I learned that a ribbon vine on a tomato plant is not a big issue, very happy to hear that, I also got info that my plant is very leggy, yes it is but if I can get a set on it I will be happy.
Saturday, February 3 View Page
Test germinating a few seeds, my EST-1275, my 514 and my 539.5. The 1275 was the first one to get a root on it. Took 3 days which made me happy. I plan on keeping the plant for awhile and see how it grows since I will be growing it this year. Waiting to see if the 514 and the 539.5 germinate
Saturday, February 3 View Page
Here is the seed. All I did was sand the seed and I got all the air bubbles out by pushing on it a little under water. Got wet but I did not soak it for a few hours like other growers do. I then stuck it in soil and here it is with a root. Iím expirementing. With my 514 i sanded it. I did not soak it at all or get the air bubbles out. With my 539.5 I just stuck it in the soil. So far the sand meathod with getting the air bubbles out seems to work for me, I have them on a heating pad at around 77-80 degrees.
Tuesday, February 6 View Page
The 1275 has sprouted! It looks very yellow right now because it has not seen any light yet. I took the seed shell off 20 min ago. Can't wait to see it green up
Tuesday, February 6 View Page
These have gotta be the healthiest peppers I've ever grjwn indoors. The pure kelp Alaska liquid plant food is really helping!
Tuesday, February 6 View Page
Getting some nice peppers. Lots of flowers
Tuesday, February 6 View Page
I moved everything around so the sunflower could have more LED light. I switched it with putting the white light in the growing tent with my 1275
Tuesday, February 6 View Page
This is how it looks now
Wednesday, February 7 View Page
Day 2 for the 1275 and it's looking good! Since the pumpkin rotted this is very good news seeing that the seed will still produce a healthy plant.
Saturday, February 10 View Page
I'm at the dump. I've been in need of some walking boards! I see some nice ones!
Saturday, February 10 View Page
Got some nice ones! They are wide so I will cut them up and get a bunch of walking boards! They are light too
Monday, February 12 View Page
Here is the 1275! Looking good! This is just a trial. I am watching every move it does. I put it under the LED light a few days ago because I thought it would grow faster under there. It did not it was slow. I put it back under the tlc light (white light) yesterday. I can already notice the faster growth. Maybe that's because it's getting older as the days go on so it's picking up speed I don't know lol, this is just a trial to see what it likes best!
Wednesday, February 14 View Page
1275 is looking real good. The first true leaf doubled in size over night. I can really see the fast growth now.
Thursday, February 15 View Page
Boiling some fresh sap to turn it into fresh syrup! early start this year because of this warmth. Getting 3, 5 gallon buckets full in only 2 days.
Thursday, February 15 View Page
My sunflower measures 43 inches today. Still no signs of blooming which is great! Can I get to 5 feet?! (60 inches?) maybe!

While I am away I can spy on my 1275. It is looking really good. Day 13 for it today and that looks about the size I want it to be when I plant it in the hoop house. It is earning its right to be planted
Wednesday, February 21 View Page
I was snowboarding yesterday with friends. Amazing views of fog rolling into the mountains. It felt like spring. I am going again today and 65 degrees today so I wonít need a jacket.
Wednesday, February 21 View Page
Great views
Wednesday, February 21 View Page
Iíve learned that in order to get the pictures on here to be not sideways you have to take it live. Looking like another foggy day so I will take one and post it. It is amazing.
Thursday, February 22 View Page
Super aggressive 1275. It is growing like a wild fire. Third true leaf grew a lot from yesterday. Main vine is really starting to grow fast.
Thursday, February 22 View Page
Last time I watered the 1275 was Friday. Any yellowing if there is is most likely from no water. Looking a bit dry but growing fast
Thursday, February 22 View Page
Having a great day at okemo in VT. Snowing hard
Friday, February 23 View Page
Just got home from vacation after being away for a week. Here is the 1275! An absolute beautiful plant. There is only 1 burned leaf and that is from the light that I have. It is growing super fast.
Friday, February 23 View Page
Hand comparison with a leaf!
Friday, February 23 View Page
Pepper is doing good! Got two more peppers on the plant. Other pepper plants just have flowers on them. Those should get peppers soon
Friday, February 23 View Page
Indoor sunflower is becoming a monster. It measures 52 inches and doing 1 inch a day
Friday, February 23 View Page
Itís time for me to start my Carolina Reapers! Yes I know what your thinking. Itís to early. But it is not. I started them last year at the end of February and I got nice early peppers early in the season. Itís the way to go.
Saturday, February 24 View Page
Found out this morning my pracitice 1275 has a flat vine developing! Itís dissapointing seeing such a thing when itís not even in the genetics. First I thought it was a ribbon. Lookimg at it closer itís a flat vine :(

Iím at a CO OP in topsfield and wow! So much Neptuneís harvest!
Sunday, February 25 View Page
Picked up some nice neptunes harvest crab and lobster shell! 10 bucks for a 4 pound bag. Good deal.
Sunday, February 25 View Page
The giant pumpkin season is coming up quick. I had ideas where I wanted to do a long gourd and a bushel gourd. I did not have the space so I was heading towards a long gourd since I could build a cheap trellis out of PVC pipe. I added up the money and I had enough but I forgot 1 thing. I forgot to add the sand! My soil gets compacted pretty easily in my pumpkin patch so sand will help my pumpkin patch. So I was deciding if I should toss the sand out or go with a trellis for a long gourd. I decited to forget about the long gourd this year. I want a big a** pumpkin. After a disapointing pumpkin year last year I want to put all my effert into the pumpkins. My goal this year is a 1500 Pound pumpkin but I will be happy with just getting a pumpkin to the scales. I believe I have what it takes!

Enjoying the NHGPGA meeting. Woody Lancaster next to Steve Sperry talking about pumpkins
Monday, March 5 View Page
What a day yesterday I went to the NHGPGA meeting. Enjoyed talking to everyone. There were some raffle tickets with some seeds you could win. I put two tickets in the 2363. There were about 30 raffle tickets in there. I won! Could not believe the luck I just had gotten. Also got the 1297 holland. my lineup has changed a bit I am still doing my 1275. I will do the 2252 as a backup. I got lucky winning the 2363 and the 1297. I will be growing the 2363 now this year! NEW 2018 LINEUP 2363 holland (main plant) 2252 Paton (backup) EST 1275 swenson second plant
Friday, March 9 View Page
I will be pulling my test 1275 today. It was an aggressive plant and shows it wants to be grown
Friday, March 9 View Page
Huge damage yesterday from a snowstorm I got. 9.5 inches of heavy wet snow took down multiple trees and power lines. I had a few trees fall down in my backyard. None really close to my patch. It was bad though
Friday, March 9 View Page
I was trapped on my street for the day. These power lines fell. I woke up wondering why the Road had snow on it. The plows could not plow because there was wires hanging and trees in the way. They never reported the wires down which was redicoulous
Friday, March 9 View Page
This big fell in my yard in the morning. I looked and I saw that there was still the main tree left. The tree was split in half so all the weight with the snow on one side brought the entire thing down. Wow I saw it and it was crazy! It was a big tree
Friday, March 9 View Page
That was the rest of the tree. You can see it split. It was big
Friday, March 9 View Page
This big tree is sitting in my circle. Luckily it fell where it is where I can still get out of my house
Friday, March 9 View Page
9.5 inches of snow sure made for some great pictures! It is a winter wonderland
Friday, March 9 View Page
Very nice.
Friday, March 9 View Page
Lots of damage damage done but it was a great getting all this snow. It was heavy though that's what brought down everything
Friday, March 9 View Page
Real pain and the ass. My fence fell down and all the metal streaks got bend! Damn it! That's going to be a pain to fix!
Friday, March 9 View Page
What a disaster!
Friday, March 9 View Page
The fence is all bent up, I've got poles that are all bend! Not sure what I am going to do
Wednesday, March 14 View Page
It's so pretty porkchop! 19 inches!
Wednesday, March 14 View Page
I have received my 2 holland seeds! The 1297 and the 2363! I won them from a raffle at the NHGPGA meeting. I am very happy that I won these seeds. I will be growing the 2363 this year with my est 1275.

Giant cabbage seeds are sprouting! Someone told me they took a long time to germinate. Guess not, they are on a heating pad. I planted them on Monday
Monday, March 26 View Page
Itís crunch time! I am worried! 1 month until hoop houses are up and warming the soil! Maybe sooner. I still need to get the 8 yards of compost in and a few yards of sand in. And a big delivery truck does not have access to my patch so I need to drag all the compost and sand to my patch with a small tractor trailer. I need to till get the amendments in. Itís crunch time!
Monday, March 26 View Page
My family decides to go on vacation to Florida April 13 to the 21st! I really donít have much time!
Monday, March 26 View Page
Carolina reaper seeds never germinated, I think it was because the heating mat was never on. I ordered seeds off eBay. They should come by April 10th. They should sprout by April 20th I hope. I plan to plant them outside by May 20th. A month inside growing should give them plenty of time to get big enough for planting May 20th.
Monday, March 26 View Page
Here is the sunflower that I have been growing all winter long. This is a huge accomplishment to me. It is over 6 feet tall I will get a final measurement tomorrow. It was growing at 1-2 inches mostly every day for the entire winter. It is fun watching it bloom! I am proud
Saturday, March 31 View Page
Pumpkin Patch cam is up!!
Saturday, March 31 View Page
Live video quality is great and it has an extremely wide angle lense
Saturday, March 31 View Page
Compost is here! Came early! 4 yards of it. I was going to get 8 but thatís just over load I would never get it in the patch in time. This is a good amount itís plenty and it looks great! Nice and dark
Saturday, March 31 View Page
This stuff looks good. Sand should be coming in 30 min
Saturday, March 31 View Page
2 yards of sand just arrived! Now itís time to get working!
Saturday, March 31 View Page
Gotta use the wheel barrow instead of the tractor. Tractor needs a tune up that will take awhile
Saturday, March 31 View Page
Done! All the compost and sand is spreaded. Now I am going on the sides of the patch and loosening that up. Lots of patch work being done here.
Tuesday, April 3 View Page
I have a decision to announce, I will announce it in the morning, it was a hard decision to make but I feel it was the right decision.
Tuesday, April 3 View Page
I will just announce it now, Iíve decided to not grow my EST 1275. It was a hard decision. It really really was. I talked to a few friends on FB and one of my really good friends Hayden. I had the 2032 Mathison in my back pocket. I was wondering if I should grow that with the 2363. I decided yes. Here is why. The 2032 has amazing genetics. Amazing. It has grown many whoppers, I have not gotten a pumpkin to the scales in 2 years! I want a good chance! My 1275 rotted a week before the fair. It is not proven it is not. I threw it under the bus but I feel like it was a good decision. I will be growing two very good seeds. Here it is. Official final 2018 lineup. 2363 Holland 2032Mathison
Wednesday, April 4 View Page
Talked to Woody, the 2032 May not be the seed I choose. I agreed with what he said. 2363 is defiantly a choice. I am going to shut up until I have a seed confirmed!
Wednesday, April 4 View Page
This is easily The hardest decision Iíve made, there are thousands of seeds out there, I was talking to Woody, he said the 2032 is an old seed. It is it was grown in 2013! All of the pumpkins grown off it went light, I am currently thinking about the 1742 wolf. 12% heavy grown from the 2145
Sunday, April 8 View Page
At the SNEGPGA meeting. Picked up my ferts! Having a great time!
Friday, April 13 View Page
2018 seed lineup! 1791 Werner. 22 percent heavy. 2363 Holland. 11 percent heavy, I am pumped! Starting seeds today!

I am on vacation. Flew to Savannah GA today. Landed at 7:03. 2 hour flight. Views were great. I saw the east coast on the way down. It was bumpy on takeoff for a little while. But I am all good now. Got some reaper seeds off eBay. They are slow and itís april 20th so I found some on eBay live plants. I will start a few of the seeds just in case
Friday, April 20 View Page
Did some things today to the patch. I spreaded 1 bag of kelp and 1 bag of humic acid. Tomorrow I will just build the frame of the hoop house. Iím ready!!!
Friday, April 20 View Page
Went to check out my plants! 2363 in front and 1791 Werner in back. Those are my 2 main plants. I forgot to take a pic of backups. My EST 1275 is slow it did not pop the soil yet. The 1914 sperry did. Something tells me I am going to have a great season!
Saturday, April 21 View Page
1914 Sperry backup on right. Left is my est 1275. As you can see the 1275 has not really done anything. It has roots but it is slow popping. I am going to germinate a 2003.5 Lancaster for a replacement backup.
Saturday, April 21 View Page
I finished building the frames of the hoop house today with Woody, I am planning on tilling my patch on Tuesday, after I till I will dig the holes for the cables then bury them then get the hoops up with the plastic. Then itís go time! I plan to plant sometime the first week of May, it is a little disappointing that my 1275 is slow and weak. The 1223.5 the plant is was grown from was aggressive, Oh well. I am pretty excited about this season.
Sunday, April 22 View Page
Sunflower I was growing indoors ended up at 6.9 feet. Very happy with it.
Sunday, April 22 View Page
I am going to plant two giant cabbages. I am currently going for the WR. The world record cabbage is 138 pounds. It was grown in Alaska Where itís usually wet there. I have a good climate where I am. Nice temps. I am planning on putting a shade cloth to shade it since it can get a bit hot.
Sunday, April 22 View Page
Here is what I am doing here. This is for the cabbages. I put plastic down and I made a hole where I am going to plant the two cabbages. The leaves will not touch the ground since they will be on the plastic.
Monday, April 23 View Page
Carolina reapers came in the mail today! I planted them in 2 gallon pots. They are about 2 inches tall. They should be ready to plant outside in mid May.
Tuesday, April 24 View Page
Patch is being tilled today! Canít wait to see it nice and fluffy, Thanks Woody for tilling it for me! I really appreciate it. :)
Tuesday, April 24 View Page
Thanks Woody for tilling my patch! Looks greaat!
Tuesday, April 24 View Page
Patch looks great tilled! I put the fence back up. I am currently digging the holes where the cables will go in,
Wednesday, April 25 View Page
Rainy day today. Yesterday I finished digging the holes where the cables will go in. I will take more pics tomorrow when itís sunny.
Thursday, April 26 View Page
So hoops will most likely go up Saturday. Aiming to plant Tuesday May 1st. Holes are dug for cables. I will post pictures Saturday when the hoops are up.
Saturday, April 28 View Page
Great day to harden the giant cabbages and giant tomatoes.
Saturday, April 28 View Page
Hoop houses are up!! Heating cables are in. Turned on for planting hopefully Tuesday.
Saturday, April 28 View Page
I saw my plants today. The 2363 holland and the 1791 Werner are doing amazing. Very very healthy. On the other hand the backup 1914 sperry is all messed up and deformed. The backup 2003 is Just popping the soil. I will plant the backup 1914 sperry I guess but the 2003 will stay in the pot since itís just sprouting. If I need it I will plant it. I am not worried at all about my backups. My main plants are turning out to be very very strong.

Closer look at the patch. Ready for planting Tuesday!

Planting plants tomorrow. I had some animal trouble last night in the hoop. Something was trying to get in to the warmth. Think it may of been a raccoon that slipped its way under the dirt somehow. Looked like itís head was only in. I will post pics soon. I will keep an eye and see if it comes back tonight whatever it was. Iíve got cameras In the hoops,

2018 pumpkin season is really getting off to a great start, animal issues, then possible heating cable issues. Does not seem like they are working, then a space heater issue with one shutting off when temp is only 60 degrees in hoop. These plants better be ready to fight a battle the entire month of May.
Monday, April 30 View Page
Plants not going in tommorow due to power issues! Everything went out in hoop. This is great!!!
Tuesday, May 1 View Page
Here is the issue. I only can have 1 heater on. If I put the second one on everything will go out. So one plant will deal with cooler conditions during the night. Night temps will be in the 50s and 60s
Tuesday, May 1 View Page
I will try to plug the heater into a different Curcit. I will update later, I plan on planting today, if it does not work out no big deal. I can fight it. Time to rock and roll.
Tuesday, May 1 View Page
Pumpkin plants are in! This is the 1791 Werner! Power issues all fixed. Iím ready to go for the 2018 season!
Tuesday, May 1 View Page
2363 holland is planted! Nice big leaves. Will start to run in about a week is my guess for both plants
Tuesday, May 1 View Page
Forget to mention this in my last post. You can see in the pumpkin pictures that I have no backups planted, that is because they did not turn out well. I have some more started and if I need them I need them but i donít think I will. I am excited for this year I really am. Itís hard to believe Iím in the ground this early, last year I was in May 13th. Iím ready
Wednesday, May 2 View Page
I am shading both plants today. Going to be 88 degrees and I do not want to risk burning them. I took both of the ends off as well.
Wednesday, May 2 View Page
Nice Delivery from Woody! I got this mini hoop that has a cloth on it so the plants donít burn when there in 88 degrees today.
Thursday, May 3 View Page
You are looking at the 2363 holland. This plant is really growing fast with this hot weather. High 80s really getting the growth moving here. Iím liking it. I feel really good at where I am at

2363 is outgrowing the hoop
Friday, May 25 View Page
I am going to take the hoop houses off on Monday on the plants. I have room in the 1791 Werner hoop and I figured out I can squeeze just a bit more room on the 2363. 2363 is filling in fast but Monday should be the point where they come off. Besides itís going to be a cool Sunday and some rain.

-Tomatoes- this is likely the issue. When my neighbor sprayed this bug pesticide he was not careful enough! That spray has a 65% oil based concept in it. That burnt the tomato plants. So thatís it. It is very very very frustrating

This looks like a mega blossom to me on the 4.25 la rue. Should open in a day or two
Monday, June 4 View Page
Iíve been doing some thinking and Iíve been talking to other people about this. So Iíve got a pumpkin on the 2363 Holland at 12 feet out on the main vine 18 secondaryís behind it. It will open sometime next week. That would give it somewhere between the 10th and 13th of June to open. It would have about 106 days to grow until the Topsfield. That is a long time BUT I would get my peak growth in like August and thatís better because in September itís cooler. I could gain a good amount of pounds pollinating early. I would still pollinate others just in case and the 2363 was pollinated at 10 feet with that amount of time on the vine I believe with around that many secondaryís. Here I go on a mission to try to get a 1500 pounder on the scales. That is the number, 1500

Tuesday, June 12 View Page
The first 2363 pumpkin at 13 feet is taking a long time to open. I thought it would be today. Then I am thinking tomorrow. But you know what. I think it may be Thursday. Itís just not that orange on the tip and the flower is not that big. The pumpkin must know it wants a bigger plant behind it. The longer it takes the better. Better not open Monday because 90s are in the forecast. 2nd pumpkin will open sometime next week
Tuesday, June 12 View Page
Plastic cup placed on pumpkin 2363 Incase she opens tomorrow. I have 2 1791 flowers ready just in case

You knew there had to be an issue at some point this year, letís start it off by a main vine split on the 2363 Holland. Main vine Gotta clean it out and cover it. Same thing happened last year. Thatís a sign the plant is strong in my opinion. Very fast growth moving through the vines.

MORNING UPDATE óó- Is the 2363 Holland pumpkin showing signs of life? Hello and Good morning everyone. As I posted a few days ago I told you that the 2363 had stopped growing. Thatís what it looked like when I measured. Also it was wobbling a scary amount. But that may of just been the shape and how the pumpkin was a foot off the board. I have placed a cup next to the pumpkin but with the pumpkin not touching it. This morning I woke up and the pumpkin was touching it. I will continue to monitor the 2363. The patch is currently in Emergency Mode ?? yesterday I lost 3 secondary vines to phytoptoro. 2 of those I cut in half at the infection I need to try to save energy. I lost two completely on Friday. I am away in NH today so when I get home this afternoon I expect to lose more. And I need to watch the 1791. I am going to apply fungicides tonight. Going heavy on those. Letís see if that kills the disease. I was 100% it was over a few days ago. The pumpkin is telling me itís still alive. I will update again later. Have a good day.
Sunday, July 29 View Page
AFTERNOON UPDATE -Good news! -update! I got home from NH. I was expecting to lose a few secondaryís from this disease. I was shocked. No leaves wilted. Very good sign! I am fighting my way through this, letís see who wins. the threat is still there. Soil is dryer. I am applying fungicides tonight and that includes water. So the disease, photophora may affect the leaves again after the application. I am very happy I did not lose any vines today. Threat is definitely still there though. On another good note I got home and the pumpkin was touching the cup!
Monday, July 30 View Page
Very important day in the patch! Fungicides applied. I will now see if any leaves wilt today. Fingers crossed!

I am up to about 6 secondary's cut off on the 2363 from the disease. if this plant keeps losing secondary I will be taking the 2363 holland to the marshfield fair on august 18th. and thats if the 2363 pumpkin is still alive. if the 1791 Werner keeps growing and does not get affected by the disease she will be going to the topsfield fair on September 28th

I am receiving news from the patch. The 1791 has lost one vine from Phytoptoro. That happened yesterday, the 2363 lost two yesterday. Today, BANG, lost like 6 vines on the 2363! 5-6 secondaryís left. 1791 is doing fine today. The 2363 was in the path of the wilted leaves so I am hoping the pumpkin is fine! The 2363 is likely going to marshfield next weekend if sheís still alive. I need to get her weighed. That was not my original plan
Thursday, August 9 View Page
-UPDATE to last post- 2363 pumpkin is cut off. I do not want to risk it with the disease possibly going into the pumpkin 9 days until the marshfield fair. Hope she makes it

1791 Werner going strong!! Letís go! 43 days until the Topsfield Fair! Estimated at 648 pounds day. 57 days old. I should be in the 900s by harvest if my calculations are right, based on the genetics she should go extremely heavy! Is 1,000 pound pumpkin possible?! Hell yes!
Thursday, August 16 View Page
I spy some green. Come on baby! Show the heaviness you are meant to show! 1791 went 21% heavy to the 2017 GPC chart

Monday, August 20 View Page
I will say this again. I am not giving up. Itís not over till itís over! I am drying the soft spot out. She is deep but it can be done! Last year I was so disappointed I did not have a pumpkin at the Topsfield Fair. I was thinking to myself. Next year I will get one. This is next year! Today is today. I have 1 last chance with the 1791 after losing the 2363. I am doing daily checkups on the bottom of the pumpkin. Pumpkin still feels rock hard and is solid. Pumpkin still is showing signs of growing. I am not giving up! 39 days until the Topsfield Fair! And I plan on being there!

Last night on my way back with Norm Gansert, Scott Marley, And Woody Lancaster the highway got closed. We then took another route. We ended up back on the same highway. Apparently a serious fatal accident happened on 89 in NH. We were sitting there for a long time maybe 25 min. Entire line of cars. The state trooper led us off the highway in the opposite direction. It was a cool experience for us. The crash was not good. I did not see it but it sounded bad.

I havenít posted in a while! I hope everyone had a great Christmas! Ive decided to do hydro! Two buckets that I will get the supplies for then I am going to buy one! Still a little while away till I am 100% set up but I am excited!

I want to thank Hayden. Hayden has really inspired me to go hydro. He has sent me pictures of his plants that he has going and the different between soil and hydro is a huge difference! Much faster in hydro! I can not wait to try hydro! Thank you bro. You really have got me excited about it and I think you have gotten a lot of other people into it as well. I would not have gotten into it if it was not for you. You keep on trying to figure out your own techniques as well. Always thinking out of the box. Keep up the good work man :)
Saturday, December 29 View Page
Setting up the hydro! Some things came a week early!
Saturday, December 29 View Page
6.52 la rue. Will stick her in soil now since the root popped within 3 days. Hopefully will plant in hydro within the next week.
Saturday, December 29 View Page
6.52 has been planted! She should pop within 2-3 days. After she gets her cots and produces a good amount of roots I will plant her in hydro. Probably will be in about a week and a half, with the other veggies I ordered rockwool. I will start new seeds for those and plant them directly in that. I will start a back up giant tomato in the rock wool
Saturday, December 29 View Page
Giant tomato is back in her bag!! After searching for her in the soil for 15 min I found her! Lost her then found her once again! Reason for this is I want to put her directly in the Rock wool. Root is still attached so no damage to her, she will now be able to go in hydro quicker!
Sunday, December 30 View Page
Plants for the hydro have been started! Put the seeds in the rock wool. Heated mat under the rockwool. Soaked the rockwool on warm water. If it starts to get dry I will sprinkle some water on there. Got the 6.52 La rue in there as well with some cherry tomatoes, and peppers

Monday, December 31 View Page
I am spending the entire day to work on my pumpkin patch! Very nice out today. Since I have to start in a brand new patch itís a lot of work. This patch is 5-7 feet away from the diseased one. I am going to leave 10 feet separation. I am not getting diseased again!! Veggies were here last year and they were great so I donít think I will have issues. Hopefully the part I am expanding is disease free. Lots of work to do to get the patch ready for the 2019 season. That will be my 4th season of growing these giants
Monday, December 31 View Page
The new 2019 pumpkin patch is starting to come together! Cleared out the brush, now I need to blow the leaves. Total measurement of patch. 45 feet long and 41 feet wide. = 1800 SF. My plan is to do two plants and those two plants will get around 750 SF. I will be turning the vines so a little bigger. And Iím not forgetting about the bushel gourd! That will get around 300 SF. Then my other veggies will go on the side of the patch
Monday, December 31 View Page
Here is the stupid diseased patch. I will plant grass there.
