Her 5.95...sign finally up...funny how a little growth spurt puts a little hitch in your giddy up...

Sunday, August 12 View Page
Speaking of growth spurts ....been a lot of rumors flying around behind the scenes of a monster lurking in them woods...I’ve decided to sandbag this son of a bitch right to the very end...that’s it...it’s the sandbagger life for me....big Tuck is under wraps...only time you’ll see him is when his seeds are in jar..

Wednesday, August 15 View Page
The hummingbird moths are in full force this year...

Wednesday, August 15 View Page
I saw these for the first time a few years back and thought it was a clumsy baby hummingbird...(that I tried to catch)...pretty neat little creature...

Wednesday, August 15 View Page
I mean...they look like feathers, right?...baby drunk hummingbird?...I musta had a couple that evening...

Butterball is still packing on the pounds at day 47 and I believe is still on track to beat our personal best ...the giant pickle plant is getting pretty yellow spots on the leaves...

Sunday, August 26 View Page
It’s hard to believe these are the “little ones” growing on the plant...haven’t picked the big one yet ...mostly because my secret to growing “big” cukes before I knew about “big” cukes was to just leave them on the plant ...I think it’s still growing fatter...I dunno master p...it’s 32” long ...lmao...fun

Sunday, August 26 View Page

We had the Girl Scouts come for a patch tour...lambchop had them eating out of her hand...she’s good with the little-uns...

Tuesday, September 25 View Page
Way to go lambchop!!!!....her growing “methods” have me re-thinking some things...at least for hotter than usual weather...pretty sure she beat me this year..

Tuesday, September 25 View Page
Ohhh baby...less than a week to go...here’s a tip...build a giant pallet for your pumpkin...(makes them look even bigger)...12” tall?...yea...that should do it...gotta make the heavy hitters a little nervous when we pull in the parking lot...

Tuesday, September 25 View Page
Heck yea...we ditched the tape a few weeks ago and went to a stick...she’s still putting on an 1/8” of thickness per day...starting to feel confident about making it to the end...

Oh man we made it..what a ride this year..we’re pickin MaRge the BaRgE tomrw...she’s got a dimple, but she’s purty...me and the missus pretty much agree we grew our dream pumpkin this year..and our biggest...un-fricken real..people shouldn’t be allowed to have this much fun...

Tuesday, October 2 View Page
Wow ...a look back to our first...7 yrs ago today...”Katie bugs” on the 601 porkchop ...what an incredible ride that was..we hadn’t even seen a giant pumpkin before..just a quick little tv blurb a few years prior...didn’t even know about BP.com..lol..but we did read about a schoolteacher named Christy harp that had grown a world record pumpkin that weighed 1725 lbs...me and the ol lady would just dream about growing a pumpkin that big...I said, “yer a schoolteacher, how hard can it be?”....yea, she didn’t like that..

Tuesday, October 2 View Page
Fast forward to Saturday...yikes ...we were taping close to that 1725 mark that we always talked about...MaRge has that little divot in her so we were thinking she could go a little light but was hanging on to hope after reading big moon this summer talking about the low wide shape...(thanks big moon...ya kept me in the game this year)the lift went smoothly and the bottom looked terrific...now let’s get her out the patch...

Tuesday, October 2 View Page
Oooooo...that was a little hairy...stuck there...we couldn’t stop laughing so we had to set her down and regroup....but we got her out for the money shot..

Tuesday, October 2 View Page
Bam!!!....thanks again to “the lifting crew”..my buddy Gilbert got to see one of these for the first time..so glad he made the trip..now you two guys stand on the back of the bobcat so we can load the pumpkin into the trailer...

Tuesday, October 2 View Page
Not so much laughter as panic trying to get MaRge loaded...it would have easier/safer to lift/load blossom end first but it wouldn’t have looked as cool driving down the road..whew!!...we are loaded...off to Saratoga!!!

Tuesday, October 2 View Page
My guess of 1710 MaRge quickly went down to a guess of 1690 when we pulled in to see how many huge pumpkins were there...what a great turnout and a great spot for a weigh-off..there was about 10,000 people that went through and I could tell by their faces that many of them had never seen fruits of this size...Lol..I pretty much won for tallest pallet...

Tuesday, October 2 View Page
I was so excited to take lots of photos to document the day but got suckered into strapping up the pumpkins...if they had seen me lifting MaRge the day before they probably wouldn’t have asked...lol..Pretty sure no one could tell I was scared to death to drop someone’s pumpkin..can’t say enough about how easy these guys made it look..toddmod, Wayne, Courtney and all the rest of you guys KICKED ass to make Saturday one hell of a day...I got to meet one of my “BP” hero’s VTjohn...and yes, he’s even more awesome in person..wish we had more time but we’ll see em again...also met Big T Hoff..it was real quick as I was in a hurry to find a crapper but I gotta tell ya...for someone who claims to be a grumpy guy, he was grinning from ear to ear...sorry I don’t get to meet your grandson big t...and hope next year Mother Nature is a little more kind...

Tuesday, October 2 View Page
I was able to snap a few photos ...here’s our Howard dill winner and one of my favorite pumpkin growers..look at that proud face on her grandson..!!!...priceless
