1317 Clementz, 3x my 350 (2009xself), waiting for the rest to germinate.

I couldn't find my heat mat, and germination rates seem low compared to prior years. I think only about half of the AGs germinated using this improvised method after five days, and so far none of the long gourds or watermelons have germinated.

Looking pretty healthy right now. The real challenge is keeping them that way.

First picks thus far are the two 350s on the bottom right followed closely by the 1317 Clementz on the bottom left. Of course, when it comes down to it I'll probably pit one of the two 350s against the 1317 since it is not very far behind.

4x 350 1x 1317. The two 350s on the right probably have the largest cots I've ever seen; they're almost the width of the 1 gallon pot, and have the best developed first true leaf of the group.

I put two plants in the ground today, 350 left 1317 right. My main 350 got burnt (I left them outside for the day while I was away without knowing the weather forecast) but luckily the one I transplanted was right on its tail. The 1317 is also looking good, but is just a tad behind the 350. I'll probably wait about two weeks before I make a cull decision, after which it should be evident which one is more aggressive.

Greenhouse is up for the night, and I have a heat lamp help keep things warm. Should I point it towards or away from the plant? I don't want to disrupt their circadian rhythm with the light, but I think they will stay warmer if I point it towards them. I'm trying not to illuminate the whole plant just in case.

I decided to take down my greenhouse. It was very cheap (25 dollars from China) and it hasn't taken the years too well. It started tearing two years ago and now the holes are too big for it to be worth anything. It's too hot here anyway, and the temps at night don't really go under 55.

50 gallons of compost tea. I've never made this much before, and I certainly won't be using it all on my pumpkins at this point in the year, but it was more of a proof of concept as opposed to a necessity. I used approx. 3 oz. molasses, 16 oz kelp extract, 16oz humic acid extract, 10-15lb leaf mold compost, and 6 cups Vital Tea, which is a tea brewing starter in it of itself. The pH went down to 5.7 because of the humic acid, but has rebounded to 6.4 in the last two hours (whether due to mixing or the bacteria I am unsure). I'd like to see where the pH goes tomorrow.

I did some reading and realized 3oz of molasses was not enough. I have added about 10 fluid oz of molasses since then.

one of my plants had a leaf that was wilting. I discovered it yesterday and decided to wait another day to see if it was some sort of stress (it hasn't been too hot and they seem to be watered adequately). Today it was still there, proving my suspicion that it could be a bacterial or fungal disease. I cut the leaf off with a sterilized snip and covered the cut with sulphur powder. Does anyone recognize this? Please email me

I'm lucky to have gotten at least one set on the main vine. This is the third time the main has shriveled and died on me. I keep the entire plant under a 30% shade cloth and have another I put directly over the main, but I guess it wasn't enough for the 107 degree weather we have in June and July. The third pumpkin on the main shriveled with it, so that just leaves two pumpkins. Hopefully they both set.

We're moving out to a property with 10 acres. I've been planning out my garden for a while; here's what I've come up with thus far. 5,184 square feet is a lot, especially for me, so I might cull a few of the areas. Main features: two 900 square foot AGs, 900 square foot greenie, two 300 square foot melon patches, tomato patch, two long gourds, and a 1,224 square foot garden, which should include tomatos, peppers, beans, watermelon, cantaloupe, and several other fruits/vegetables upon further discretion.
