The main vine is getting kinked.

Another picture of the kink in the main.

Both sides of the main are getting pushed back.

Step one in moving the pumpkin to fix the kink, put 1 2x4 beneath the mill fabric, and one on top. Screw the two together and attach an eyelet to the top board.

Step four, take deep breath, pray, start cranking and hope your season doesn’t end in disaster. Also, try not to throw up.

This was not the s bend I was trying to straighten, and the noise it made when the cable gave out almost made me throw up.

Success. Slid the pumpkin on the mat 8” forward one crank at a time and relieved the pressure on the stem, the main and the kink. I dug out under the kink so it had room for movement when sliding the pumpkin forward.

Another picture of the newly positioned pumpkin, with the main no longer pressing on the pumpkin. I love the fact that I am able to burry the main right up the stem so it is rooted, but it is not without problems.

This crack was here before I moved the pumpkin, but I’m pretty it opened up by a centimeter towards the stem during the move. The way the vine was kinked before it was probably pushing up on the stem, maybe even caused the crack. By moving the pumpkin forward and taking out the kink I hope I relieved the pressure. Still not sure if I made it better or worse. I hope I never have to go through this again.
