Starting plants early debate? The young seedling placed in the soil will grow 50% of its RUUTTTs across the surface of the soil aprox 2-3 inches below the surface.Thats ok till summer comes & its 90 degrees out. Then you will get scorched leafs due to shallow root system getting hot.So starting the plant early will give you a deeper root system when placing plant in ground.Northern growers may not be concerned with this but I get pretty hot days here in Muddy waters.Im no soil scientist butt I did start the elevated walk plank in 2011 when I grew my 260 Giant watermelon.I think common sense ideas will grow Big Fruits combined with basic science knowledge. No need to split the Pumpkin atom folks.KISS

Monday, April 16 View Page
So 2-3 weeks in the bag is a good thing. I like a 2 gallon bag myself. I have very little leaf scorch now with this method

I learned this from my good friend Tom Beachy. If you are not still learning your dead in the water.I was driving through Ft Wayne one day on a road trip & stopped to see Tom.He goes back to my early learning learning from Nic Welty & the gang in Guleph & Niagara Falls. Marvin & I would jump in his truck & drive across Canada to get all the latest ideas.Al Eaton was the big Dawg then & George Llyodd. Thanks TOM BEACHY !! Awesome theory.I love it!!!

1279s are double planted this am I predict a big ORANGE beauty from this harvested on August 26th fruit. The 2043.5 is the daddy.I also will go out on a limb & predict a down year for most of the country as the extreme cool spring will switch to extreme hotter then average summer.I think Wisconsin will stay on the cool side of the heat & grow some monsters. If this proves to be true I will being buying the house next door to Josiah this winter.lol Im only growing 2 pumpkins this year I feel I can spoon feed them much better then more plants making my odds better of winning Michigan this season

BIG BUBBLES NO TRUBBLES!2043.5 Loving me some small leafs. This will be a easy plant to care for.It reminds me of my 1495 that grew the 1317 mother of the 1947.Hoping to set fruit in 1 week Yes June 8th. If I go with the next one it will be maybe a June 11th or 12th pollination. We just got a 1/4 inch of rain. It was a dry May & very warm

Tissue test back from Western Labs.Ron Wallace said to put the pedal to the metal with the ferts.lol I think I better back off the Nitrogen a bit though.Im happy with my numbers here.small adjustments as I will pollinate in a day or two.Funny thing I only put down 1 yard of compost this year on this plant.I did use some Urea & a little Blood meal.I didnt use my favorite Cotton seed meal which is slow release. So I will back off the Marks Mixes a little. This is why they dont all come in 1 jar.I can adjust the NPK better with 6 different products.

Im kinda glad the 3 lober didnt take. To early June 9th seems crazy early. This gives me a few days to dial in the nutrients. We just had a good soaking rain last night.Ground was very dry from a dryer & warmer then average May.I moved the main vine over to the other side of elevated walk plank to get better fruit positioning.I wanted my tissue test a week before pollination so this will play out well for a balanced plant at fruit set.

The 1279 Clementz(1317)X2043.5 This years Runt.Only doing 2 plants I truly believe I can spoon feed 2 plants much better then 4 plants or more. Time will tell.It is getting full sun while the 2043.5 is getting 20% less. On a cloudy day this could matter. It all depends how many cloudy days we get this season.Time will tell.Aint no use asking the weather man.He aint got no crystal ball lol

Well after 2 years of trying to put up a new website the new one will be done I'm told before Christmas here is a sneak peek at one of the pages we will have.Jackson is the fastest math kid in his class my daughter just told me.She said he is done with his math & its 100% correct every time. Then he starts talking to the teacher & gets in trouble for talking to much.LOL They dont know where he might have got this talking issue from?? But they are working on it.My Pride & greatest joy JACKSON REED!!We want to get kids dirty again!!

My wife just told me that she played Monopoly recently & Jack new how much rent to pay each time he landed on her lots.He counted the money & paid her. Wasn't real happy when he lost the game. But thats a good lesson to learn in life. You dont always win.She is very impressed with todays 6 year olds.

11 days off I was going to take Jackson ice fishing however the ice is not here yet.I think I will ask Jackson if he would like to spend a day with Uncle Jud who will be 90 this year.He has a house full of puzzles & model airplanes with 6 foot wing spans that would amaze most adults let alone a 6 year old.Happy Holidays to all in our Giant World! Jack & Bubba!
