Just because October is not busy at all… Might as well have another ‘harvest’ in October. How old can kids start to pull weeds?

Pulled out my test plants today to inspect the roots and to harvest the dirt for my 'real' plants. I am very happy with the amount of roots that these little seedlings have!

Started my real seeds today. Going to grow 4 plants this year each will get about 400Sf. 1937 Urena 2000 Pingrey 2043 Clementz 1718 Ceja By far I think this is my best seed line up yet. Trying to put thought into the genetic side of things. I have 2 of each seed as well as a few back up seeds.

It took about 40 hours but I see green on just about every pot. I will transplant these into larger pots tomorrow as I will be out of town for the next 4 days. Better a little too early than too late in this case.

I post much more frequently on my facebook page as it can be done from my phone. Feel free to give it a ‘like’ if you actually care enough to follow! Hahaha. Facebook.com/ColoradoGiants Pic = I added a touch of peat to the patch this year…

The seedlings grew fast! They went under 8bulb T5 fixtures on a wire rack that I could easily wheel in and outside.

Fast foward 20 days and 1 Hawaii vacation later I FINALLY had time to plant the plants in the patch. A BIG BIG BIG BIG THANK YOU to Pete and Cindi for babysitting by plants and helping me to get them in the ground.

Pete and I put a generous amount of Azos, WOW Mykos and Root Keeper directly on the root as well as in the holes. the 1718 Ceja plants were probably the best with 1 plant being the stand out BY FAR. I REALLY wish that guy had been in the ground 10 days ago... The 1937 Urena are great 2043 Clementz had some really nice roots my 2000 Ping had a double vine at the time of planting. I pinched one of the tips off and we will see how he rolls.

1937 plants looking good.

The hot huts came down today, it is simply TOO HOT during the day. The screen will go on tomorrow so they will have 20% shade and a bit of heat retention at night.

My beautiful fiancé spent most of her day off cutting and sewing together the new screen as the roll I got was not the correct size.

Colorado cave version 4.0 is basically done. Thank goodness, it is getting HOT already! Temps have been near 90 and with no automatic watering in place I thought a few plants were 100% toast. Thank goodness they came back - they have a few crispy leaves but a big fan is now in place as well as a temporary mist/water system until I can get the 'real' one set up on Monday. Whew... That was a close one. Tomorrow the plants will have been in the ground for a week so ill start to push them a little.

I always think I am behind but then I look at pictures like this which remind me where I was when I grew my PB of 1367. Still ahead of that mark.

The plants have been in the ground for 1 week today. And boy... What a stressful week! At day #3 the temps were in the low 80s and by day #5 we were in the low 90s. An emergency sprinkler had to be installed to spray every few minutes to keep the plants cool. The normal mist system will go up tomorrow. Plant notes. Spot #1 The solo 1718 Ceja plant. This plant took the heat the hardest, one day the leaves were 100% on the ground. I thought it was dead. Now that I am keeping it cool it has started to establish and begin to roll.

Spot #2 Both 1937 Urena are great looking plants, one is starting to roll faster than the other, this will be a difficult choice when the time comes to cut one off.

Spot #3 The 2000 Pingrey is starting to grow, the main vine is rather thin as until recently this plant was a double vine. I am super bummed as this was the seed I was probably the most excited about. My second 1718 Ceja is the first to turn on the jets and is starting to get himself into grow mode. I really want to pick the 2000 but I have a feeling I will be growing 2 of the 1718 this year. A good problem to have.

Spot #4 The 2043 plants had the best roots going into the ground and both took the heat the best. 1 plant is refusing to lay down, and go figure it is the better looking of the two. The other is growing well, this will be another tough choice, I hope the larger one learns how to "lay down"!

Just about 1 month later and it's time for an update. as of today (July 6th - these post's are back dated.) All plants have pumpkins started, its been VERY hot so far this year so hopefully they all took. Memo to next year self. Get more fans! 1937 Urena. This plant keeps on trucking. I would say my #3 favorite in the patch as of now.

1718 Ceja #1, the best plant that is now my #4 favorite. Crazy thing is that I gave the best spots to my two favorite plants - said plants are the smallest. LOL.

2043 Clements has really been picking up speed as the other plants are starting to slow a touch.

the 1718 Ceja #2. In the beginning my least favorite. Now it's the top dog in the patch. It is about 300 Sf here.
