OMG I love this pic. My young fella checking the ice before heading out. It was actually a free skate with the Yarmouth Mariners last week. We arrived early and he couldn't wait.

This is the short list. Odd choices maybe, I am stoked! The 1101 Northrup has a guaranteed prime spot if it pops. This is as classic as it gets. John Young's 544 is a no brainer, the 1102 Pukos IMO is an underrated cross and a perfect pollinator for the 1101 Northrup. I was pleasantly surprised to find yet another 444 House ( 575 Wolf x 364 Webster) which grew my 407 last year. Best looking pumpkin I eve grew http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=284443 The 804 Vincent/ McGill- 670 Daigle x 1180 Daletas gets my blood boiling so it has a good chance as well. I don't know how I can go wrong here +my own 407 in the mix. Early Spring predicted here, woo hoo!

So how about something completely random........they are shooting a movie here starring Willem Defoe and Robert Pattinson called the Lighthouse. So who can't decide between bisquick and Sobey's version of pancake mix. I'm looking for recycle bags and run into this guy- sweet, I love living here.

I read an article on germination of older seeds. The author claimed a high success rate in the germination of old seeds by following certain processes. An older seeds needs moisture, oxygen and simple sugars to stiimulate the enzymes within the seed. Following these guidelines, I soaked all of the seeds in an undiluted solution of 3% H2o2 for 8 hours to kill any pathogens. After a triple rince, the seeds were soaked again in a mix of oxygenated water, one oz. of H202 and diluted molasses 1/10 .

The 1101 Northrup, 1102 Pukos and 804 Vincent McGill get a special spot in the "warm" germination chamber aka Coleman cooler with heat mat. These seeds will get preferential treatment. The two 554 Young seeds, my seeds and the 754 Carlson seeds will need to prove themselves at room temperature. The Young seeds and my own should be fine. The 2002 Carlson seeds are a long shot, but worth the effort.

Good news, bad news. Most of my starts failed to germinate including 1102 Pukos ( 1159 Richards x 998 Pukos ) and 804 V/M- 670 x 1180 Daletas. Good news is the 1101 Northrup thanks to John Young, is alive and kicking,

With COTS only a mother could love, I promised that I would give this classic all the attention it deserves. For a 2004 seed, this will be fun/ challenging
