Just a quick update, everything is going well here. As expected germination was weak for me with the 178 + 174 seeds, however i managed to get enough plants from each of them to germinate for what I wanted. This is one of my strongest plants in the outdoor patch, a 165 which was started on the 28th of june.

28th of june??? Whoops the above should have read 28th of may!! Here are two of my indoor plants which were started a few days later on the 31st of may. The weather here has been hot and dry and its been getting plenty hot enough in the tunnels so the outdoor plants have been in the best place so far but there's plenty of time for that to change.

I have three plants in my smaller tunnel growing across

and I have too many plants going on in my larger tunnel. Ive been a little over ambitious growing so many plants and am not finding it easy to keep up with all the vine burying at the moment. Im in the process of pollinating and should have most of them set within another week.

Well ive let my diary slip a little this year but things haven't been going that great here, the marrows didn't like it inside this year as can be seen in this photo of an empty house

203 lbs damaged/unnoficial. Went down to a stem split. Disappointing yeah but really satisfying to grow something like this from my own seeds.

Well, more bad luck. 16 days ago, after I lost the 217, 211 and 203 marrows to splits I had one real monster left in the patch. After losing the others i didn't want to risk losing this one too so i decided to cut it off and store it in the shed till Malvern

we put it on the bathroom scales and it weighed 220 lbs. Apart from a small crack on the underside of the stem which didn't appear to be very deep it was sound and i thought it would have kept no problem as it was around 50 dap

sadly i was wrong, a few days ago i noticed it was starting to feel a little limp and yesterday i found an area that i could push my finger in to. I weighed it again this evening before i cut it open and it was 211 lbs so lost 9 lbs in 16 days and there were no internal cracks so im miffed as to why it went bad. I didn't really think ahead and things would have been very different had i have taken the trip to Harrogate two weeks ago.

The length was 46 inches which is about what i normally get but it was the width that really made this one special as it had a girth of 64 inches

Well Brad you can relax now because im all out of monsters for this season lol, but "I'LL BE BACK' in 2019!

After a difficult few weeks in the patch we ended up with some success taking the red card at Malvern with a 173 lb marrow which to my knowledge is the third heaviest of all time to make it to the scales. As always had a great weekend meeting up with friends old and new.

Time to finish my diary for this year and reflect on what a season it was. I grew 27 plants in total, 17 in the poly tunnels and 10 outside. I did manage to find the time to maintain them to my best ability (only just) but it was too much so wont be doing as many next year. Of the 17 that I had in the tunnels I managed to blow all 17, to be honest I think I could have grown 100 and blown all of them it just didnt work in there this year so I wont be growing them in there again. Heres another photo of my 220 lb marrow which didnt quite make it. This marrow was not DMG when I took it off the vine so im calling it the "unofficially weighed" 220 Baggs 18 (165 Baggs x 178 Baggs)

The 203 DMG (stem split) was also grown off a 165 seed. Didn't save any seeds from this, too immature

I cant find a picture of it now but the 173 Marrow that went to Malvern was also grown on a 165 seed (165 Baggs x 174 Baggs). These two were both DMG, 211 dark green off my 154 seed 217 striped off my 151 seed both too immature so no seeds saved

This one was another DMG which grew off one of my 178 seeds and was about 190 lbs ish.

Finally this is the only other marrow which did not blow. This one weighed 172 lbs (135 Baggs x 165 Baggs) pollinator grew 203 lbs DMG. That's me done for 2018. See you all next year. Mark.
