I am a german pumpkin grower. 2017 i did 1 plant and had with some problems a pumpkin of 436 lbs. This year i plan to have one with 800 (would break my pb of 2010 with 789 lbs). 2011 is grew the last time. Then last year again. This year i plan to grow two plants. my lineup is already decided and in the next picture i will show the seeds i am planing to do. On this picture you can see patch number one that i bettered with compost soil and some other organic stuff like hornpieces, cowmanure, little stonemeal and "bittersalt". I hope this will bring better results this year. I am also planning to build a professional hailnet. The one they use in appleplantations.

Here is the cross i want to plant on the other patch: 1302,5 Olsen 17 (1756 Howell/Jolivette x 2145 McMullen) I hope the shape of the seeds will not affect the plant..!?

"Winterpumpkinplant" on 13.03.18 This plant lost its stump like 4 weeks ago. But it is still growing. I always let it grow in circles. If the top of the maintwine reaches the oldest leave, then i always cut time by time the older leaves. Today its more than 3 rounds or more that this plant did in the winter. Two growlamps of 2x 10W were enough to keep the plant alive. Time by time i had some problems. Especially like in january or february when the maintwine stopped growing and the leaves got smaller and smaller. Then i realized that there is not enough "manure" in the soil. Then i did some liquid manure into the pot with the spillwater and "ewolla" the plant grew a new maintwine out of a secondary twine.

Hello everyone. I am a german pumpkin grower. I grew giant pumpkins from 2008 till 2011. Then i stopped with that. Then in late 2017 i startet 1 plant and now 2018 this hobby has me again very hard.. I have now two plants going. One 436 Rupf plant(seeds from my pumpkin i did last year) that is doing very well (familytree in the picture)

And here the family tree of the other Plant. It is a 1173 Olsen 17 i am growing.

forgot to say (1173 Olsen is x 1684 Willemijns). This Willemijns i got from a friend. And first i plantes the Willemijns. But then the stem of the Willemijns was eaten half way trough by a bug or something. So i put it into a pot as pollination plant.

Here you see the 1173 Olsen day 13 (today) and with much problems.. on the top side of the stem there are two small cracks in it. And at the bottom side you see the big crack beneath.. dont know it it will make it.. hmm

Here you see a 3 days old sidetwinepollination on the 1173 Olsen. It was x self. This lobes are gigantic. I do not know why.

Thursday, July 5 View Page
And here is the 1173 Olsen x self Day 3 from the Side. The stem of it is already as big as the sidetwine.. i think this is genetically. Because the plant of the 436 Rupf is extremely strong, but the stems are not as big as the olsenstems.

Today is day 15 for the 436 Rupf. Looks good so far. Only the maintwine and the stem of the 436 looks a little small compared to the olsen plant.

1173 Olsen day 15: It has 1 cm less than the 436 Rupf on day 15.. Future will tell whats about that pumpkin..

Sunday, July 8 View Page
A view over the pumpkinpatch. This year i did much moderate rotten woodchipsoil to the patch. And one told me that it reduces the plants abillity too gain nitrogen. So i think thats the reason why the olsen plant (left in the picture) has some twines that didnt start so well. And also in the planting area this plant has not so big leaves. The maintwine on the olsen pumpkin is never the less much stronger/bigger than the maintwine on the Rupf pumpkin. The Rupf Plant on the right side has much bigger and denser Leaves, but the maintwine is realive thin.. strange bit it is so.

Here are the endresults of the two Pumpkins. First the bigger one: 631,18 Rupf 2018 (436 Rupf x 1173 Olsen) UOW -1,70 % today 97 Days old.

Wednesday, September 26 View Page
And here the 548,51 Rupf 2018 (1173 Olsen x 1684 Willemijns) UOW + 6,93 % today 96 days old. The last two nights we had frost. So all of the remaining leaves have died. So it was good to get the pumpkins weighed today.

Today a also harvested the seeds from the 548 Rupf. Interestingly the seeds in the 548 Rupf were bigger than the seeds in the 631 Rupf. Maybe its because of genetics, or maybe because the 548 would have been grown much bigger if the plant had no problems with the soil. I also carved a face into the 548 Rupf pumpkin that you can see in the picture.
