Opps! Rutabaga

I don't think these carrots will amount to anything. Hopefully I can replant them next year and get some seeds from them.

Wednesday, April 26 View Page
Snowing for the last two days. Yesterday it melted. Doesn't look like this will melt for a bit. It doesn't look like I'll get an early start this year.

I thought I would dig some clay out of the pit in my high tunnel. I hit water. Maybe I'll try rice this year.

Sunday, April 30 View Page
The others have been up a while. I decided to dig it up and this is what I found.

150 patch. 19x8=152 I cut the front two corners off to get down to 150. No special plan, it just fits nice in the high tunnel

150 entry. 925New. I lost the other pumpkins to frost. I added a thermostat and 60 watt bulb, plus blanket. Haven't seen the sun for a while so put a light on a timer. Even the soil isn't warming up. Heat tapes next year.

These are my early tomatoes. I'll only keep the largest mega blooms and try to reset some later for weigh offs.

925New my 150 entry. High tunnel means you have to even water when its raining outside. This is the only plant that didn't suffer from a hard frost.

2106 doing really well. A hard frost killed all the leaves. This came back from the buds at the intersection s by the stem. My 359 turned to mush, so no saving it.

Rutabaga seems to like the cool weather.

We got a little wind. My fault. I ran out of good plastic and used cheap for this tunnel.

Thursday, June 15 View Page
It was windy enough to rip the base boards from the bottom, which allowed the bows to push the header off of the posts. It made a couple ventilation holes in the plastic. All put together again.

I ran out when it was just about done. I opened the side curtains to let the wind go through. Lucky the wind had calmed down a bit. I only had a few tomato plants get broken. They will come back from suckers I hadn't removed yet. They will probably be right on time for the weigh off.

150Sq ft plant filling its space. Only the main isn’t terminated. I’ll let it run around the front as long as possible. 925 New 2015-Pumpkin (1947.5 Clementz 2014 x 1916 Barron 2014)

This is my first competition tomato growing outside the high tunnel. 7.1 Foss

150 Sq.ft. (925 New ) Right on 20 day target. 158lbs. Too bad it is two weeks late. It will have to be a nice fall to make it up.

1121.5Gates (1789 Wallace 2011 x1985 Miller 2013) 18 days, 137lbs. Since it’s outside it will have a harder time making it to 1000lbs. Sure pretty, wish it was orange.

Cold nights aren’t helping the tomatoes. It probably won’t get any better.

This is the my luck with mega blooms this year

Wednesday, August 23 View Page

Wednesday, August 23 View Page
150 Sq.ft (925 New ) about 500lbs. The same as the 1121Gates. Warmer temp. in the high tunnel, but a lot more plant on the one outside.

Thursday, August 24 View Page
I started out the year losing plants to frost. 35.4 last night in the high tunnel. I think the growing season is getting shorter. It isn’t even Sept.

Saturday, September 9 View Page
off my 5.17Hill2016 (5.3 MacCoy.) Considering this years growing season, I feel lucky to have any increase from last year. I’m not counting on anything for Gale Woods weigh off. I have a couple in the high teens or low twenties, but they aren’t growing and will probably mature before then.

Saturday, September 9 View Page
Only thing still growing is the long gourd. It is only about seven feet and slowing down.

Saturday, September 9 View Page
My 678Adams already got nipped by frost. Didn’t harm anything else, but most have stopped growing anyhow.

Saturday, September 23 View Page
It looks like the one on the right will be my Gale Woods. It is also off my 5.17.

Saturday, September 23 View Page
No long gourd this year. It almost hit the bottom of my 10ft. trellis
