Busy day at the office - making plans for the 2017 "non pumpkin" garden. The wife said NO to me growing a giant melon so I drew a picture of her in the garden in the watermelon patch and told her look how happy she looks with a watermelon - needless to say the melon is a go! And isn't my wife hot! Lol .... is it spring yet????

Only thing better than the patties winning another Super Bowl is winning free seeds when the patties win another super bowl. Thanks for the 2066 Mr. mobymikeguide - I will most likely not even plant it and just keep it as my own little super bowl ring

Sad day - just got back from vacation and found my mater got BER in 2 places - looks like you win MN bnot :) weighed in at a monsterous 3.9 oz DMG - plant was chopped down and I got a rutabaga under the light now

Monday, February 20 View Page
Wasn't all bad - I promised the wife she could plan a vacation with the pumpkin winnings from last year. It was the only way she would agree to not kill my plants. So she picked Punta Cana in the Dominican. It was well worth the trip to lose the mater too. Beautiful beaches there

Monday, February 20 View Page
And a highlight from the trip - a bird crapped on my wife's back! Lol - if you remember from my previous diary she doesn't like birds/nature/dirt etc - I think they can sense her hatred haha

Monday, February 20 View Page
And watch out Bob - Carls little brother is starting to pick up steam! The carrot seeds to be doing well

Monday, February 20 View Page
And here is my rutabagie - don't know if it's doing well or not. It just looks like I'm growing a dandelion. I half suspect that the seeds MacCoy sent me were dandelion seeds and he's just laughing his ass off watching me :)

Also randomly met this guy at the lobby bar - Darren Steven Miller ... ended up talking for hours - amazing story he had cured his terminally ill lung cancer with treatment of cannabis oil. Google "Darren Steven Miller Cancer" and read a couple articles. He was basically given a couple months to one year to live and they said there was nothing more they could do so he heard about this cannabis oil therapy and gave it a try and has been cancer free for over a year now

This makes me laugh. These are my brother in laws Moms plants. She germinated 4 out of 5 of my 1481 by putting them in a window sill in baby peat pots. She didn't soak seeds, sand the edges, get the moisture right in the soil, add a little humic and seaweed, rinse with peroxide, get the germ chamber to 85 degrees, make sure the humidity isn't too dry, etc etc....She put them in some garden soil, watered them and put them by a window...lol This just shows how easy these things are to germinate. For all the thought, time and care we put into germinating seeds. Don't worry so much people :) ...(yes i know the plants are leggy and look bad but that's not my point :)) ...also I am bringing her some of my back up plants that look a little better haha

Wednesday, May 3 View Page

So here is the official line up....all sites double planted... Site A: 1724.5 Steil & 1724.5 Steil Site B: 1918.5 QTip & 1918.5 QTip Site C: 2096 Meier & 1975 Wallace Site D: 2145 McMullen & 2261.5 Wallace The picture is my turdy 2096 (on the left) that i am hoping pics up but I really have no problems planting the 1975 Wallace (on the right)....is turdy a word? The 1975 looks awesome so far and ever day i keep leaning a little more and more towards it. The 2145 is the starter over the 2261 but also would have no problem planting Paps monster.

Pollinated 3 pumpkins on the 1724 today - all I had left was two males in the entire patch lol - I'm not worried I'm sure one of the three will take ....I still might roll with the "special" pumpkin I got set right now or might grow all of these out for the kids

Saturday, July 15 View Page
This isn't the pumpkin picture you want to post on July 15th - oh well

Saturday, July 15 View Page
She's about 24 feet out on the main - nothing to lose at this point

Here you go Gary - 1724 x 2145/open pollinated 7-14 - I used 2 2145 males to pollinate 3 females all on 7/14 - I didn't bag anything up so they are all open but there wasn't any other males in the patch lol

Monday, July 17 View Page
#2 of 3 - this one is on the main and about 25ft-ish out - I plan on rolling with this guy as it's noticeably bigger than the other two already

Tuesday, July 25 View Page
Pancake aka 1975 Wallace stopped growing....why lord why!?!? Still don't know why. Plant looked healthy, new soil, no soft spots on the pumpkin, everything looked normal except the fact that it stopped growing lol

Tuesday, July 25 View Page
I'm sorry Pancake. Don't cry girl.

Tuesday, July 25 View Page

I'm with Porkchop, unfortunately no record breakers coming out of the patch this year but got three healthy pumpkins and plants for the time being....here's the late set 1724 that we are naming Pancake Jr ...not Because it looks like a pancake just because Allie calls them all pancake now ....and apparently pants in the pumpkin patch are optional lol

Tuesday, August 22 View Page
Still green! Just needs to stay green for about another 30 days and I got 10lbs in the bag

Friday, August 25 View Page
I don't think either of the Dan's need to worry about their records but this should be a personal best for me by far - still green but it's starting to gett that lighter green/yellow color so it will be soon

Friday, August 25 View Page
Best I could do of a bottom pick but no gaps hoping she goes heavy - hehehe

Friday, August 25 View Page

Wednesday, August 30 View Page
Boom goes the dynamite - we finally got some nice weather and this baby couldn't handle the surge - I looked at the pumpkin at 4:30 when I got home and when bill came over at 5:30 it had popped...obviously it was his fault :)

Sorry for the lack of response lately - I've been up in Canada fishing eh - caught a PB wall-banger the first 30 minutes out fishing - 29" it was a piggy...

Sunday, September 24 View Page
I love you, I'm gonna miss you....

Sunday, September 24 View Page
Bye. Bye you lovely little piggy

Sunday, September 24 View Page
Also caught my first musky ever - so guess a PB - 37" but I caught it on 8lb with a jig and minnow, also I was by myself had it up to the boat about 8 times before I finally got her to cooperate - what a blast! And it's hard taking a selfie with a 37" fish

Sunday, September 24 View Page
By far the highlight was my mom catching a 31" inch lake trout - my brother had to tell her she has a fish on because she thought she had the bottom - she opened her bail letting line out and we are like mom you got a fish - she was reeling in and all you heard was drag coming out so I had to set her drag while she was reeling it in - she got tired about half way up and started with a "humping and thrusting" type reel in - biggest fish she has ever caught and she's 62 - fun fun fun

Sunday, September 24 View Page
My brother and I got some bitching fishing shirts for the trip....happy little trees ...little van dyke brown ...

Sunday, September 24 View Page
Back home - I guess we had some wicked warm weather when I was gone almost all of my maters flashed - this one rotted a little on the vine - another over 4lbs - dmg though

2145 Bunkin Blast Off - taping over 400 - hoping she goes Heavy -

Sunday, September 24 View Page
And Spooky - tall tall tall - everything looked good when I got back from the trip - what a relief - except for all the maters flashing early 90 plus degrees in MN for late September is wild - we typically only get a couple 90plus days all summer - pumpkins love it though

Sunday, September 24 View Page
Culled a melon or two lol

I just got verification from Guinness that I now have the official heaviest carrot in the world! Woohoo! I wanted to give a special thanks to Ian Paton. He helped streamline this process with Guinness in getting the record approved for me. Thank you Sir! It just speaks volumes about how he feels about the growing community and helping his fellow growers. He stood to gain nothing from helping me out but was more than happy to lend a hand. I really appreciate it Ian and thank you again!...... and since you couldn't officially get to hold the carrot I did the next best thing for you. :) You might want to frame this Ian, that's one hell of a catch!

Wednesday, September 27 View Page
and lets not forget about Bill Foss. Thank you Bill! He dropped what he was doing and came to verify me weigh the carrot. I couldn't have done it without you buddy. Thanks!
