These are the fly strips from our hoop houses. Never before have I had to change them out. I believe these flys basically are from corn seed maggots. I havent seen any of the maggots but the plants are still healthy. We have not added any manure or compost to the patch in 3 years. So either conditions were right or they came from the sand I added this spring. So always add pesticides early. These test ph, chlorine, alkalinity, and something else thar is for pools. 10 bucks at the hardware store. This is a sample from our watering tanks. 1/3 cup of chlorine was added to the tanks 2 days ago for disinfection. The tanks will be emptied and rinsed. I'd like to think it's from the pumpkins drawing so much juice also. Our biggest one is at day 35 and doing about 40 lbs a day the other is day 25 and doing about 25 a day. I am working nite shift (4:30 to 3:00 a.m.) so I have to cover while the plant is in full sun. Than be out in the patch before 10:00 a.m. to take it off. They are calling for temps at night in the low 50's for at least the next 10 days. Also added dehumidifier to hopefully keep moisture levels down, so p.m. don't kill us. Praying to the pumpkin gods to make night time temps go up, so I don't have to do this for the next 50 days.
