Weekly update......... I am now down to my final 12 plants was a tough call but I think I chose the better of the 2...... time will tell... got the last of the amendments tilled in and the fences are up I'm now ready for the next phase of growing these beasts yup vine bury time.... a big thanks goes out to mike the beard guy he ran my soil threw Brian's soil calculator to get my virgin soil properly balanced and boy that was a lot of amendments who ever said virgin soil is the best didn't have my super high mag levels in there soil ...... also thanks to Brian for making the soil calculator it's way over my head but I think it's very cool.... Sunday's storms dropped 1.5 inches of rain in about an hour or so.... yup fresh till got water logged .... I have noticed the grass around the patches is greening up way more than the rest of the lawn must have been all those amendments.....oh ya forgot to say I have several plants that have grown out of the hoops I'll be glad once all the hoops are down the 240 binder clips suck when opening and closing 12 hoops daily

Wednesday, May 31 View Page
Here is what I am growing all cuts have been made so in the south patch I have 1692 gehwieler, 1585.5 Werner, 2145 McMullen, 1625 Gantner, 1385 Howell/ jolivette, 1781 zywiek... this patch was planted a couple of days before the middle patch so they are bigger And in the middle patch I have 800 est. McMullen, 1781 zywiek, 2307 Wallace, 2145 McMullen, 1338 Martin, 1744 fulk..... I can see what I call the harp genetics in some and I can see the 1625 in some others what that tells me is I need to try and pollinate most with 1625 genetics to make them bushier and shorter leafs... the 1625 is by far the widest plant I have she also has the most secondaries for how long they all are but like q tip says I'm biased as well .. main vines are all longer than 4 feet at this point some are twice that....... ;)

Sunday, June 11 View Page
Patch number one..... it's hard to remember after tending to 12 plants but hey I'm in the game so I better play

Sunday, June 11 View Page
The other patch.....this patch was planted 2 days earlier than the other patch... I think these plants are a little larger as it takes me longer to tend to them...I bird told me a man with a beard might show up soon so I figure I would show yawl too... lol

Thursday, June 15 View Page
Updated my email so now people can reach me

Saturday, June 17 View Page
Patch update...... well I still have 12 plants there is a couple that if they don't get moving I won't even think twice of just cutting them off... I don't have time for drama queen plants..... tough love around here I guess if I was a plant and see my patch mate get cut off for not performing I think I would try extra hard to ensure I was leader of the pack.. but I guess that's just me.. looks like next week will be a full on pollenation station around here... happy Father's Day to all....

Saturday, June 17 View Page
I suppose you want to see some plant pictures...... don't worry they are growing real nice I've been busy tending to plants!!! I'm trying to not post frequent pictures in hopes of all the WGPG members who show up for the patch tour get to see some nice stuff kinda like when you see santa on the roof with a bike in his hand.....

1692 Gehweiler x 1625 4 lobe used 3 males this my longest main vine plant

Tuesday, June 20 View Page
2145 (B) x 1625 5 lobe also used 3 males on this one oh ya the last 2 picture are fresh from this am figured a little show and tell wouldn't hurt

Wednesday, June 21 View Page
1385 howelll/ jolivette x 1625 5 lobe .... 1625 Gantner x 1692 gehwieler distorted lobes :( .... 2307 Wallace x 1625 .. distorted lobes :(........800 McMullen x 1625 distorted lobes :(....... I'm not a fan of distorted lobes but I figured I better throw some pollen on it ... was an odd morning I only had a few males opened today so I had to use the go to pollenator as she has all sorts of males everyday it seems like.. she must want to spread her pollen.. I was shooting for 800 x 1585 Werner and 1625 x 1585 but she didn't have any males to offer so maybe the next pollenation will go better... I know sometimes the first female to open is distorted around here so I'm pretty much planning on going with the next group of females but it gives me good practice

Friday, June 23 View Page
1585 Werner x 1625 nice 5 lobe ...... it's amazing how many males flowers open daily on the 1625 as most of the other plants only have one maybe 2 males that open daily she seems to have several everyday I guess that's good as she has been my main pollenator plant which is good cause I kinda wanted to pollinate everything with her anyhow but normally this never happens to me when I try to plan my crosses .. amazing how things work out.... however last night we had some big storms that dropped 1.25 inches of rain.... and

Friday, June 23 View Page
The storms came threw and broke off the main vine on one of my 1781 plants yup it was the patch master plant as well :( upside she broke off one node down from the baby pumpkin that will open tomorrow and it did leave me one secondary vine in front of the fruit to allow for it to become the new main vine what a pisser eh....

Friday, June 23 View Page
What a shame however in pumpkin growing there is no guarantee that anything is a sure thing upside I still have a female on the old main.... and a new grow tip in front of her.... guess we will have to watch how this turns out

Saturday, June 24 View Page
So the broken main vine plant female opened today... so I pollenated 1781 x 1625 go figure I guess there will be a lot of 1625 genetics spread around this year.. I noticed yesterday that the deformed female lobes are actually 6 lobe females never had those before I typically see 4 and 5 lobed females but hey 6 has got to be better and 5 eh? Nice day to start tending to mynplants I'm sure this will have another long day in the patch.... I sure am getting a nice tan this year

Sunday, June 25 View Page
1781 zywiek (B) x 2145 (A) figured I would change it up.... let the 1625 rest for today lol nice 4 lobe

Tuesday, June 27 View Page
1692 x 1625 yup that's 2 sets now on her first one has taken but who doesn't have insurance now a days temps have been cool... looks like all the pollenation have taken so far except the 2 2145 A and 1338 Martin they just don't want to show up for the party

Thursday, June 29 View Page
2145 A x 1625....... also did the reverse cross today as well 1625 x 2145 had 1.8 inches of rain last night so it was wet this am again

Saturday, July 1 View Page
800 McMullen x 1585 Werner she has to be out about 18 feet I plan on going with the closer sets on most of my plants as they are getting bigger sized now but a back up is always welcome.... also I had a few females open that had seeds in blossom and some crazy looking lobes so I didn't bother to set those I even had one open last night while I was cutting the lawn how crazy so she also won't make the cut.... I have another female to open on another plant that has a hole in the tip of the flower and that ain't right... hence why I am keeping my closer sets don't need drama or funk so safe and sound is the way I'll roll this year..... all the rain we had I have pumpkins sinking in the soil so a lot of sand will be needed today if it's dry enough

Saturday, July 1 View Page
We put out 2000 pounds of sand and that wasn't enough so I guess 3000 is what we needed ....lol noticed the last storm has put several cracks in the main of a few different plants :( however they look kind of healed over but they will be left exposed to watch how things look the knife will come out fast if rot has set in.. speaking of rot .... 1781 A plant with broken off main vine.... well rot has set in or should I say had.... I decided to cut off the main back to the stem ... I mean what the hell might as well experiment ... also I have flagged a few side vine females that look like they will open soon... 1338 Martin well she just must not like me I know Joe can grow 1700 # off her but I don't know if I want to try that hard.... lmao .... kin size update 2145 B has rocketed off to number one kin followed real close by 1692 gehwieler..... holy cow I mean she has some mega roots off the nodes I mean like giant kohlrabi sized roots..... 1625 has several giant sized stem splits yes several.. mama did the same thing so I ain't worried also she feels like a chunk of lead I've never lifted something that size that was sooooooo heavy but I guess it's way to early to count your chickens I mean after all they are still eggs in an incubator after all... but beach balls o plenty ...... will sure be a good patch tour I hope yawl can attend if ya know what I mean eh....

Sunday, July 2 View Page
1385 x 1625 and 1744 x 1625 I hope the further out 1385 takes as I don't want to keep the closer set but it's getting big already... 1744 I have kept the fist set and it's on sand and fabric but I like the idea of insurance policies on every plant so I guess the grind will continue until I have had enough of this rubbing pollen stuff...

Monday, July 3 View Page
1625 x self. 1692 x self 1781 B x self ..... males were hard to find today so I figure I'll self what I can only had 2 males to use per plant .... still to wet to tend to plants more rain yesterday sure put a damper on things upside to all this rain is I haven't had to water only a few times this year but today's mission is get tank bases build 3-330 gallon totes per patch should do me real nice later in the year if it ever stops raining a couple inches a week

Wednesday, July 5 View Page
2145A x self .... 1585 x 2145 A..... 2145 B x 2145 A (sibb) ...... another busy morning 1625 I think I wore her out she hasn't had very many flower....oh ya I forgot to say yesterday I did try to pollinate my 1338 Martin x 1625 however I doubt it will take I had some issues I won't talk about :(.......... she showed up to the party but she didn't want to dance with anybody :( 1692 gehwieler is smoking inches off a tape however I have been unable to find my tape so I guess maybe I won't measure them this year just let them do there thing ?

Wednesday, July 5 View Page
I should get a beer truck to just come and fill my fridge like every other day it seems like.... the guys at the recycle yard must wonder why I come in with so many bottles

Saturday, July 8 View Page
Had some pretty good hail pumpkins look polka dotted ... might look cool this fall.... been to wet to tend to plants... ya ya I know I've been slacking upside .. if there is one .... 1338 should open again in the am... she hasn't been yanked due to it being so wet so I figure she does better grown jungle style so why not just let n Her grow all crazy like .....lol my new tank bank...yup a tank bank... when ya have a bunch of 330 gallon tanks why not make a tank bank ...lol or so I call it .... the only bank I know of that only takes deposits and never has any with drawls .....lol I'll post pics but I'll have to wait for my tractor to get back this bank is heavy and holds a lot of stuff... love the idea of a tank bank... maybe she pays out only in fall....... unsure but hey I got 2 of them ...

Sunday, July 9 View Page
So I guess sandbagging is not what this is I culled this one today.... oh ya this was a small ones ... next week some day 20 and if I was to check I might be light years ahead of my best ever on several fruit no b s ..... ya hew mt dew..... lol

Tuesday, July 11 View Page
Hello all in pumpkin land... if memeory serves me yesterday was day 20 and today will be more day 20 s so if I had a tape I would have measured but I didn't so if my eye balls don't lie I think I had my best day 20 ever one is really the biggest by several inches.... I might even give the pattons a run for day 20 numbers if I had a tape but I guess I'll just have to look at her daily and see if she keeps growing like this there is a number 2 for size but when number one is sooooooo big it doesn't matter... patch update I finally got 2 sets on the 1338 I was going to yank but haven't yet... so yes I still have 12 plants and have 12 main vine sets most I have culled off the non selected sets but with 12 things just take longer I have half of one plant to tend to then I am all caught up and am ready for the last vine growth to be done soon so I can sit in a lawn chair and drink more beer

Sunday, July 16 View Page
So day 26 is here and gone like the wind...., so I guess I'm behind Ian and stewy day 26 is only 299 yup only 299 man I missed that mark... well I guess there is always next year ..... I have 9 on fabric and sand number 10 needs sand and mil fabric.... 11 and 12 well if I was to say late pollenation then number 10 should be on that list as well but I feel that's cheating as number 11 and 12 are truly late sets even though 20 some plus feet is were they landed the plant behind them is soooooo huge I really think these are all they have and if not well compost is were they will end up I have given up on these 2 but hey who knows I mean after all number 299 could not end well n all I have left is number 11 and 12 ... it's a marathon not a race so I guess slow and steady wins the race I suppose if there was a race at all who said it's a race I say let's have fun and watch this all unfold before our eyes .........lol no,pics q I'm sorry Monday I promise it's to late for most but hey I'm here and it's late lol

Well I think today I should be day 40 and the 1692 is much much much larger she has a hard time fitting on her mill fabric not no little kin anymore plants are just filling in some hole I created ... lol I have broke off several vines ... opps north patch the 3 days of separation is showing you would think plants that were planted 3 days later would be the same size well not around here in 3 more days that patch will be full... 1625 well she seems like a wheel never had that before with a 1625 but I did have to pull on her as she was falling over on her stem but not anymore patch tour is just a few weeks away and I hope they all hold for a real show stopper patch tour... might be the one and only time when a person can see this many monsters all at one spot....just saying .. book a flight book a room and wear your seat belt cause it's going to be real nice ...........

I'm sorry pumpkin gods what ever I did I don't know and I'm sorry.... please let us finish this year with kins that are not damaged.... oh ya update so far we removed the 1625 x 1692 kin weighted 830 pounds bes (kept some seeds)..... 1744 x 1625 kin weighted 870 pounds sag line hole (no seeds kept).... 1585 x 1625 kin weighted 496 no issues other than growth was real slow ( no seeds kept ) .... A REAL HUGE THANK YOU TO MIKE THANK YOU WE WOULD NOT HAVE GOT THIS ALL DONE WITH OUT YOUR HELP....

I have received a several emails wondering about my hail damaged plants... yes they grew after I got hail.. tha daily gains varied depending on which plant and how bad the hail effected the leafs some plants lost approx 80 percent of the leafs some lost 20 percent... that is due to the fence and direction of the hail. Gains well so far things have been ok. I haven't figured out all the numbers yet as kins have just started to get cut and weighed later this fall I'll post my actual numbers as I did measure the day before we got hail and have been measuring weekly. I had one plant grow good all the way threw no real slow down on daily gains while some went from 40 some a day down to 15 a day... once I know the final numbers I will post my real info no sand added...

Wow the last loading day of the year for me was a wet one.... ever wonder what a kin feels like going 90 mph down the interstate with heavy rain slapping her in the face..... lol like hail sitting still.... lol... 2145 a x 1625 is up next.... see yawl in nekoosa.... she looks very meaty... she actually really reminds me of the 1625.5 I grew a few years ago...... raining like an s o b now good thing I wrapped her up so she wouldn't get wet... lol... grows them big all good luck these next few weeks and may all of your kins go heavy to the new chart....

1452 team Gantner / bird 2017 2145 a x 1625.5 she went a little heavy... and that being our last pumpkin we are done for the year... top 3 fruit gets us our jacket 4300 plus pounds what an amazing year we had given all the bad weather.... patch prep has been underway for the last few weeks so I think we are way ahead of last year as this time last year I had just broken ground on our new patches.. I will be hooking up the 2 bottom plow and rolling the soil over I hope this weekend

I have been away on a hunting trip and have gotten several seed requests that I have not gotten back to people have no fear I will reply once I catch up on things around here..... I have all the kind cut up and seeds removed... they are still drying and won’t know how many seeds are good at least for another week... I can say some kins had loads of seeds.. some had very few seeds... yes the 1452 is one of the very low seed count fruits... I mean low very low if I was to guess I would say 50seeds if I am lucky so don’t worry I’ll get back to yawl once I know more on what I have..... and yes my hunting trip was a good one.... one of these days I’ll have to post some pictures
