1872 Willemijns now at 27ī at the widest point and 20'in length. Itīs been a breeze to grow. I haven been as quick as I would like with vine burying so will have to see at the end of the season how many nodes are rooted.

1872 Willemijns x 1491 Werner (DAP 1) with the nub knocked off. I do something like this every year. I hope it takes otherwise itś 5-6 days time until the next one along a terminated main vine is ready.

1491 Werner x 1872 Willimijns (8 DAP). Having failed miserably at growing in Coco for two years I have gone back to soil.

1491 Werner in the tunnel. Little difference in plant size with the 1872 Willemijns outside the tunnel although that was not always the case as the 1491 started out better.

...why I need a second tunnel in 2018. Too much rain gave me all salad and little fruit. Still, a good 60 days for this one to catch up. Perhaps a few 100 lbs for a carver. Pumpkin is 1872 Willemijns x 1491 Werner

1491 Werner (47 DAP: 290"). For me and my location it's going well

But....there's a crack that can only get bigger. There's no rot and it's dry. Keen to no what others think. It's stem end

1491 Werner (Day 55 = 313"). The crack on the stem side hasn't grown and appears to be just an external crack. I won't get too happy as things can go wrong so quickly. Just take every day as it comes.

.....as now I have another crack on the front. This has been a scar/dent of sorts since the beginning and finally popped. Having ran out of liquid fertiliser I have been using a coco fertiliser. The trouble with that is that coco fertilisers have less potassium and more calcium, magnesium and nitrogen. Through ion-exchange in the coco at higher EC's typical during flowering periods, these elements go into the coco and naturally occuring potassium comes out. But I'm not growing in coco so no potassium. To counter this I have been adding in potassium (20%). But I don't think I have it balanced. Too much potassium means not enough calcium and vica versa. Same relationship exists between Ca, Mg and K. So too much K could mean why I'm seing cracks and splits. Or...I'm just over thinking it.

It's 8mm deep. Probed with some straw but don't want to push hard. Pumpkin is in a tunnel so will stay dry and the cracks dusted with sulphur. Hopefully just another surface split.

If everything holds and growth continue then the chart hints at a pb this year. There you go, gone and given it the kiss of death and tempted fate. Date Vs Mass chart is to old formulas (maybe 2013). 2017 chart estimates Day 55 (313") at 707 lbs. Old chart at 647 lbs. Hope the new chart is spot on.

Here's the 1872 Willemijns that never really grew. Its 200 lbs tops and I was going to clear the patch but thought I could probably learn something from this stem split. The split goes 5-6 inches to the pumpkin but has not reached the cavity. Surely there can't be much further to go. Inside the crack and pumpkin is solid dried up skin with no hint of softness or rot. Could she still be entered?
