Late start, never weigh it. Got the seeds from Minnie Zaccaria (NJ) late 1990s before she sold her big zac rights to seed Catalog companies. About 8 years ago I grew that seed to about 4 lbs, the only time I tried. I will give it another try this year   Friday, May 5 View Page Another Big Zac from the past. I planted some of these also   Friday, May 5 View Page I plant is one from 272.5 Neptune 2014. This plant is a little small yet but two melons now pollinated on this plant. one a couple of days earlier than the other. The other is more stocky and thicker stem. The first is longer but doesn't have as thick of a stem as the other and it is off a side runner of the main runner. If I leave this one on it might put stress on the roots base as it gets bigger. The other thicker one is about 5 feet from the root base. I have to cull one soon. I like the length of the first one but not the thinner stem or closeness to root base. I have the solution, I will just ask my wife what to d...lol (This pic was taken last week).   Friday, May 5 View Page 242 A Peden 2014 Plant is too small and insects pollinated this melon, and they did a lousy job. I have pollinated it and will just leave it where it is just so I can get some seeds from it. I probably would destroy it trying to move it out now. I don't even have anything for them to climb up on yet. They might just have to make it on the ground. My wife says to "forget this big stuff"...plant the garden !!! The big stuff to me is more fun..... and I haven't even put out the bg or kins yet, but they are ready to go.
