Hello USA and Kanada Now finally in 2017 i will grow one Giant Pumpkin Plant again! My last growing season was in 2011 and i think in the future i will grow 2 plants in each season. This year i am very late and i hope that i will get nontheless a big pumpkin! I started 7 Seeds of my 653 Rupf 2011 on 08.05.2017

Today. Six days after soaking of the seeds i couldn´t wait any longer and was dig up one of the seeds and i saw that it had germinated. Already doing secondary roots. So i am happy that i will plant this season a 653 Rupf 2011 And here a picture of tomatoes some days ago. (so you have something to see, not only reading.)

Today i installed the hailnet on the wooden frame. It is about 4.2 meters high, so the plant will get enough sun, because off the angle of the sun. There is just one disadvantage to the plant. The water is in the middle very centered. The soil gets irregular wet if it is raining.

Hier the 653 Rupf 2011 The first true leave looks a little strange. I hope the plant has no mutation..!?

Saturday, May 20 View Page
Today i did some of the cutted graß on the patch, so the worms have something to eat and i hope the soil also will get better because of this. Then i planted another 653 Rupf 2011 because i do not know if the first one is a plant without mutations. So if one of the two has Mutations i can keep the better one. Then is build a little Windprotection (green plastic fence).

Tuesday, May 23 View Page
Some days ago i also started some pumpkins to eat. Today most of them are out of the soil. On the right side i put some seeds of a exotic flower into the soil.

Here you see a backupplant of the 653 Rupf 2011 I replaced it because the first one that i planted in that spot, have had not a nice first true leave. Also it hat two leaves at the same time (i mean 2. and 3. true leave look like they are coming at the same time, so i thought it could maybe a flatvine..?!)

Wednesday, May 24 View Page
Here the backupplant from a bit more distance

Wednesday, May 24 View Page
Here you see the plant that is was digging out today. It is now again in a plantpot. As you can see. Also the other plants of the 653 Rupf 2011 have not so nice first true leaves. Maybe it is a mutation.. i do not hope so.

Wednesday, May 24 View Page
I also planted a sort of Pumpkins for eating in summer and fall(autumn) and winter. It is similar like hokkaido.

Friday, May 26 View Page
Here in the marked area you can see some broccoli plants for eating in Summer/late Summer. On the right side of this area you can see two zucchini plants.

Here you can see new holms of the bamboo that is growing in my parents garden. In 7 days the longest holm gref from like 20-30 cm to now 1,20 or 1,30 meters. Very impressive how fast bamboo can grow!

The 653 Rupf Backup plant. I think there is still something possible in the season. I hope to have the Keeper in End of June. Begin of July The last days it was very warm and sunny in germany. Every day it got warmer and warmer. Till Tuesday they have about 30 C° and lots of sun. So the Pumpkin will need lots of water!

The numbered plants are: Number one these are some of the rest of broccoli plants. Then number two is one of the hokkaido like dishpumpkins Then number three is two knob celery. It is extremely warm and hot in south germany. The pumpkin in the patch is growing nice. Today i gave him lots of water and again some industrial manure(not to much).

Today in very early moring is started to dig in a "Rhizomblocking" mat. I hope it is allowed to post someting that has noting to do with the Pumpkins..

Tuesday, May 30 View Page
Another pigture. As i was digging i hit a very old rabbit hole. Some years ago there were two small rabbits living in a small cage outside. They started digging for many years. The hole that i found is like 4 meters away from the cage they had outside.

653 Rupf 2011 today. I hope this plant will speed up now.

Thursday, June 1 View Page
Here i start a germination test. Ten seeds of the 653 Rupf 2011. I was not pleased at all because some of the backupplants that i started in May 8. are not looking very good today. One of them looks even like there is a flatvine going. I tought that it could maybe the soil that i used. So now i will use other soil and will see the results in some days.

Thursday, June 1 View Page
Here the seeds in the water soaking.

Thursday, June 1 View Page
All ten seeds will be planted in this pot and will stay there till they have first second and third first true leave to see how the true leaves look like in other soil. I want to test it so i know if it is genetically or caused by the soil i used in may.

Thursday, June 1 View Page
Well... i posted two times the same picture. When i was writing about the seedstarting i wanted this picture to show.

Here phyllostachys vivax close to 4 metres. A new holm.

Monday, June 5 View Page
I like bamboo because it looks very nice. And also the holms are perfect for tomato plants. If you want to use bambooholms they should be about 2 years old, then they are much harder as if you take them after one year.

Monday, June 5 View Page
Here you see in the Background the hailnet. Ans also a car. It is a "Sandero Stepway" (model). The older bamboo holm you see in this picture is 2 years old now. All the others have grown this year. (i hope my english is not to bad) --> Germany here..

On this picture you can see on the left the 653 Rupf on 10062017 And on the right side you can see the 901 Hunt on 10062010 So the 653 Rupf is not that much behind than the plant i had in 2010

Wednesday, June 14 View Page
Today i build a small hailnet. I used a "birdnet" (net against birds). I used it in two layers. I used ropes and two holms of bamboo on the smaller sides of the doublelayered net. The net also lets much of the sun through and helps to provide sunburn. The 653 Rupf 2011 Plant looks very healthy and strong. It is about 2-3 Years behind compared to the year 2010 (here i had my personal best of 789 Rupf 2010.

Wednesday, June 14 View Page
And another picture of the bamboo. There are about 20 new holms this year. The plant is very strong and agressive now. The biggest holm has 3 cm in diameter. Many of the holms have like 4 metres.

Thursday, June 15 View Page
On entry 88 i meant "it is about 3 days(not years) behind, compared to 2010"

653 Rupf 2011 Plant today. Very healthy plant. And also the leaves are starting to get very big!

Thursday, June 15 View Page
Here a view "under the skirt" of the plant. The doubleleavemutation results that the twine is has not yet touched the ground... it will be tricky the next days..

Friday, June 16 View Page
Today it happened. I got a patient because of the wind. The twine got a crack about 2 cm long. It goes all the way into the twine. I hope this will create no problem in the future. For the moment i decided to do a little sausage/banger that i created out of water and soil. Dispersed it a while and then layed it onto the long crack. Then i pushed it a little flat to the twine. Now i hope this will help the plant. No insects will come in and i think it will heal all fine.

Friday, June 16 View Page
Here the tip of the twine. I decided to not touch this twines tip (looking for pumpkins). Because i am not married with that plant.

Saturday, June 17 View Page
I want to warn you.. if you have weak nerves you sould not look at the picture in the next entry of my diary...

Saturday, June 17 View Page
Yesterday it was a small crack.. that i closed with cley and water. Today... well.. not what i expected to see this morning. This is my only plant this year after a break since 2011.. I am not happy about this desaster. But i am sure that this plant will go on with growing. But now it is sure that i will grow only one pumpkin on this plant and not two... The crack happened on the space where the double leave mutation was.

Sunday, June 18 View Page
Here the Results of the germination/youngplantleavtest. Only four of ten seeds made it.. Maybe it was the soil or the age of the seeds.. I

The Hailnet worked very well =)

Tuesday, June 20 View Page
Well. Not to well.. on the side some hailstones were able to smash into some leaves. Next year i plant do do it a little different with hailnet. Also i want to do a real hailnet like they use in appleplantages. So enough sun will come through the hailnet. My big hailnet (the plant will soon be under it) keeps like 90 % of the sun away. So i decidet to do a very high hailframe. In autumn i will strike and next season i will do easyer handling Stuff.

After the pollination i slowly closed the flower again and put the cup on it to keep bees away. It is a little cold in germany so the cup will hold fine. This is now the first pollination this year: 653 Rupf 2011 x self

This late morning i collected two males from the 653 Backup plant. I closed them yesterday evening when they still were close. Tomorrow i want to pollinate the second female on the 653 Rupf mainplant. I want to do "x sibb".

Monday, July 10 View Page
Here you can see the second female this morning.

Monday, July 10 View Page
I removed the rope and... ...well. I saw a bee and was like "what the..?" I think the rope was to high and there was maybe a gap in that the bee was able to come into the flower.

Monday, July 10 View Page
Here the flower after the pollination. I used pollen from 3 male flowers of the 653 Backup plant. Later this day i pulled the backupplant away. I do not need pollen of it anymore.. (poor plant). Not i call this 653 Rupf x sibb (i think the bee hat not much pollen with it and will not affect many seeds). I also think i will not need this backuppumpkin.. time will tell..

This afternoon i then build a little house for the pumpkin. (653 Rupf x self) Day 8

The stem looks a little thin... i hope it will grow a bit by the time. But the growing rates are very fine. I hope it will go on finde if god wants it.
