I'm growing a squash this year. It's been a while. In front is the 1844.5* holub and in back is the 1279* kline.

1844.5 holub squash at about 12 feet. This plant has enough secondary vines to support a fruit now and my 1975 Wallace is in about the same shape. I might be behind others but I am not behind.

1146 Snyder at about 8 feet. It was a late backup to both original 1795.5 McCracken plants. I have a 705 debacco even further behind that had no hoops or heat but is doing well. This will be my orange crosses for the year.

266.5 Mitchell sunflower. Taking a different approach this year. Growing in the shade making it stretch for the sun and fertilizing the hell out of it.

This is the smallest of my three big plants. The 1146 Snyder. I pollinated a 5 lobe flower using two males from the 705 debacco. This is my first pollination of the year on any of my plants. The 1844.5 and the 1975 are much bigger but I have been passing up on females to let them get nice and large.

We are having a YVD outbreak here in east PA. I am having a hard time buying into the concept of squash bug transmission. I think it is either a regional or culltivational situation. Year after year this is happening. Or this is being diagnosed as YVD when it is something else. I have made some initial observations that open up some possibilities. My one good pumpkin is still going but that's about it. I have another on the 705 debacco that is late maybe 20 days and open pol but the plants that I have left are still alive. We are all losing plant after plant in this area.
