There's so cute when they're little.

Wallace 2009 X Self, going into the ground.

Sunday, May 8 View Page
Wallace 1754, started 2 weeks behind, but will have a spot opposite the 2009xself. The 1754 was aggressive early, but has slowed. Maybe the 8 straight days of rain was a problem?

Caspers 1033. This plant has me second guessing. Intended to be a backup to the Caspers 1277- I have no room in the main patch for it. It's outgrowing nearly all other plants, potted and planted. I wish I hadn't staggered germinations and could better compare candidates. Will this outgrow a Wallace 1754 with a 2 week handicap?

Holland 1448 (below). Competing plant culled. Caspers 1277 (above) did not like the return of sunshine, it's droopy leaves have recovered today.

Your input appreciated! Not sure what's up with this leaf, deficiency? Relatively mature leaf. Adjacent plant culled with a more apparent issue.

Leaf from culled plant. Thoughts?

1448 and Caspers 1277 are on the move. They might out grow the hoop house by the weekend.

Spinosad not slowing cucumber beetles down this morning. They may actually be attracted to it! Dusted with Sevin.

Getting frustrated. Two largest plants are over 11 feet long, with dismal secondary growth. I want to blame the weather, as June is always cool and foggy in the island , but I suspect my soil sucks. Hit the plants with foliar CalMag and watered in some 0-45-0.

Sunday, June 12 View Page
Thought I was dealing with a Mag deficiency but Epson salt and CalMag had no impact. Believe it's "lime chlorosis", treating with iron foliage/drench.

Tuesday, June 14 View Page
I really love the Caspers 1277. Responding to iron treatment and finally starting to throw some secondaries. New growth is greening up. Nice stretch of weather ahead, hope this plant takes off. Female @ 14ft, but would like to get the secondaries established before setting a fruit.

Leave it to me to put my best performing plant in the backup up patch. Caspers 1033 has the most robust growth despite being neglected and twisted in the nasty winds we've had here in RI. I guess this seed is genetically engineered to thrive in 30 knot winds. Put out some pretty yellow leaves at first, but new growth is healthy. This photo was taken less than 24 hrs since I found it upside down.

Wallace duo is suffering the most from my over liming. 2009 is growing out of it, but the 1750 is hating life. Lot of water to flush the soil. Throwing every micro nutrient I can find on these two.

Home for the next week in Northern Sweden. 23 hours of sunlight isn't helping the jet lag.

Plants are really taking off now. Three females lined up on each plant. Decision time.

Thursday, July 14 View Page
Caspers 1277 has a nice pumpkin, but not much plant behind it.

Friday, July 15 View Page
Big problems. All new growth is affected. Vines have stopped. Leaves are small, deformed, and blotchy. I still think it's the effects of putting down lime too late in the season. Open to suggestions.

Seriously, if you see me with seeds next April, take them away! These plants deserve better!
